In his capacity of Chairman of the Board, Steve Mau gave a report on the regular meeting which was held Tuesday, September 16th at the Chapparal. Twenty-eight people attended and it was one of the largest board meetings recently. The biggest issue was the Winter Wonderland monetary disposition committee. According to an agreement that was made with the Arboretum, the committee will consist of 9 members including two from their Board and one from the Sertoma Morning Club. After much discussion, this motion passed with the agreement that the issue will be revisited after one year. Other highlights included:
  • Methods of dealing with the Aitkin Chamber and their payment problems for last spring's show.
  • Membership is at 171 with 1 add and 4 drops-Richard Slieter became a member and DJ Dondelinger, Tom Krekow, Rick Fargo, Mark Van Grinsven, and Ryan Czerny were the drops.
  • Pipe and Drape needed a budget revisal-estimated revenue was lowered by $10,000 and realistically could be $5,000 less due to loss of Aitkin show.
  • Approved donations from the sponsorship committee included $250 to Mounted Eagles, $250 Bridges of Hope, $2,000 to United Way, $600 to Junior Achievement Biz Town Project, and $2,000 to the Arboretum to show our appreciation of their support in Winter Wonderland.
  • Committee structure and by-laws are still in the process of being reorganized. This needs to be expedited as soon as possible.
  • Karen Munsterteiger as treasurer elect will be issuing the bills for Pipe and Drape to make the process more efficient.
Thanks Pam Sachs for taking notes.

Sertoman of the Day

Jeff Marchand who is General Manager of Cub Foods was today's honored Sertoman. He has worked with this organization for 35 years starting as a carry out boy working for his father. His unique position allowed him to tell us that he has never been interviewed for a job. Cub Foods in Baxter as well as the Brainerd branch has been instrumental in supporting Sertoma causes. Cub employs 240 people and helps supply the food that feeds our little part of the world. Jeff is a valued member who was brought into the club by George Moore and has helped with his rookie party, flags and the ditch pick. He was reluctant to join, but has since come to "love the group". Jeff recently remarried "the love of his life" and they share 4 kids and a passion for Harley Davidson Motorcycles. They just returned from an 1800 mile trip. Jeff's most embarrassing moment of many was a trip to a large mall rest room with his very young son who was just learning the art of the bathroom. His loud "Dad, let go of my penis" shout was made to a huge audience!

Of Note
The mean green curling machine turned black today. We celebrated John Raboin's 50th birthday party with some help from his office staff who brought in balloons and a cake. Other people who have recently celebrated birthdays or will soon are Missy Lake and Pam Bye!

It was "Sign the Pink Flamingo Day". Kari Robinson, Tami Webb and Jo Lovitz are headed to Tulsa to visit Julia Sullivan who finally has settled into a new home. Her contact information is: Joh and Julia Sullivan, 315 N 153rd Circle, Omaha NE, 68154, 402-509-0054.

Thanks to the efforts of Nanci Hallam, the club has become involved in the Jessica Lindsey Benefit Fund which has been established at Bremer Bank. Nanci passed the bucket in hopes of raising at least $300 which the Board decided the Club would match. Over $400 was raised.

Welcome the 8 new members who were officially inducted into Sertoma at Ernie's on Gull. It was a beautiful night on the lake! Our new members are Craig Dunmire-Ernies on Gull, Bob Morey-Edina Realty,Brenda Kelley- D B Kelley Farms, Doug Benzer-B.I.T.S., Nathan Kempka-B.I.T.S, Jayme Holmes-Kinetico, Tim O'Keefe-Kinetico, and Dick Slieter-Community Behavioral Health Hospital.

Business Notes

Rumor Corner
  • Happy fines abounded today--Kari Barnes has a new granddaughter, Sue Slaybaugh wanted everyone to know what a great friend Nanci Hallam is, and Kathy Williams has a second place tournament muskey fisher in her family.
  • Kari and her flamingo got into difficulties today but she manager to get a lot of signatures on the memento and even got her fancy Sharpy back.
  • Stevey Rau Mau and Scotty Fisher were caught lurking at the dessert table too long last week and had to pay a "sweet" fine for it.
  • The current economic problems with big insurance companies trickled down to Dale Bolt and Lowell Carlson who paid two dollars each to help with the billion dollar problem.
  • Brian decided to do a little advertising campaign to raise money for Sertoma. He did nice little business blurbs for Carole Paulsen and Gene Farone that cost them $2. His other hardly ever gets fined arrow hit Patty Hartman--something about her husband shooting geese. George Moore paid his retribution fine also in that group.
  • Our COB wanted the multi-tasking chili workers fined but he didn't have any authority to collect the money!
  • Mary Marana and Pam Bye got caught sneaking out early and got in serious trouble.
  • Our President closed with his idea that everyone should keep in mind, "Everybody is a Sertoman, they just don't know it yet."
