Sertoman Speakers - Mike Howard & Laura BielkeHey everyone, it is chili cookoff time again. The event costs $5.00 for all the chili you can eat, starts at 11:30, and all proceeds go to the local United Way fund raiser. This is the annual kickoff for the United Way Fund Drive in the Brainerd Area. Mike Howard and Laura Bielke, Sertoma member and Community Impact Director for the United Way, presented a short synopsis of this annual activity at today’s Sertoma meeting. We will be occupying Booth #6. This year our recipe will be new and different and much more “traditional”. Hillbilly Chili will have a secret ingredient and hopefully will get us back up into the winning ranks.

This year’s event is bigger and better than ever with 65 booths. Laura took this opportunity to introduce us to a new program being sponsored by the United Way with a spotlight at the event. The Imagination Library will be available to all area children under the age of five years. Each month those signed up for the program will receive a free age appropriate book in the mail. This is a wonderful program with no income requirements and aims to improve reading. Seven hundred recipients are already signed up with their goal number at 1100. The public can get involved in this terrific program by sponsoring a child for $27 a year.

Thanks Sarah Nelson for taking notes. The note takers from now on will be simply whoever volunteers for the day. See Rory before the meeting to pick up the sheet; it is very self explanatory and easy to use. Only 48 or so people have to volunteer once a year to cover this task that makes Pam’s job so much easier.

Announcements
See Cheryl Lee Hills to take part in the Nisswa “Big” Raffle. Tickets are $100, first prize is $100.00, and only 250 tickets will be sold. See Jason Bertram to buy raffle tickets supporting the Nunik fundraiser. Price is $15.
Flag Program came to a close for the year with the Sept. 11th activity. We closed the year with 320 flags with 32 of those in Nisswa thanks to the efforts of Sandy Fowler. After start up costs, the project will make $5,000 this year with next year certain to be at least twice as profitable. Rory took this opportunity to recognize all the people who have contributed to the project which has brought the club closer together by involving more people. He singled out the efforts of Beth Burnard who did much of the organizational work that made this possible.
Joe Schulte announced that this is the last Gossamer Ceiling set up since the National Guard has allowed us to leave the ceiling up for the week. Takedown is Monday September 27th. Joe thanked everyone for their support. Rory added kudos to the Gossamer Ceiling committee for their hard work and their considerable financial boost to our organization.

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club Treasurer and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Sertoman of the Day
Of Note:
Our thought and prayers go with the Dave Burggraff family. Donna had major surgery today and hopefully is on the road to recovery.
Thank-You’s from the Rademacher Family, Kathy William’s sister, and the Workforce Center (recipients of some of our help books) were read today.
Rumor Corner
And the wacky job contest goes on. Very hard to choose—the synchronized water ballet teacher or the kitty humanitarian services with strings entrepreneur. Will leave you to guess which one is which if you weren’t at the meeting. Of course one of them got fined for loving to go swimming with bow-legged women!
Groper got his fine today for imitating John Raboin imitating a lawyer.
Beautiful and intimate Joe Schulte, Smoke and Mirrors Mau, Senior Citizen Front Row Parking Phillips and Diane Wrecker Ulmen also made the list this week.
