Erick Klang and John Bolduc and firefighters Kevin Mahle and Steve ShepherdSpecial guests at Sertoma were law officers Erick Klang and John Bolduc and firefighters Kevin Mahle and Steve Shepherd. These great guys were at the meeting to help us remember the tragedies of a year ago. They received a standing ovation when Joe Schulte introduced them with a special story of how this has personally reached his life. The Kelly Services CEO had only one son who died in the Twin Towers. Laura Beilke also got up and thanked the members of the fire department for their prompt attempts to save her house which burned to the ground on September 12th of last year. She also mentioned what a great group of people the Sertomans were with all their offers of housing, meals and help throughout the ordeal. Laura invited everyone to a special Feng Shui House Blessing with Jenny Baker. Call Laura at 825-8750 and let her know that you are coming at 6:15 to 331 Kenwood Drive in Brainerd to help celebrate their new home. The red white and blue was prevalent throughout the large crowd as most people in attendance displayed their patriotism and support for our beloved country.

Sertoman of the Day
Sharol GibsonSertoman of the Day Sharol Gibson is a new member who arrived in Brainerd in 2000. She is part of Mark Engstrandıs team at Edina Realty and took the opportunity to tell us her agency is the most well rounded one available in the area. She has 4 children ages 6-19, three older girls and her youngest boy who just started school. Her significant other has three children of his own, so her first hobby is family. . She is also a horse person with two Morgans, She came from Montevideo where she had experience in the restaurant and hotel business including catering. Cooking and entertaining are listed among her hobbies, Sharol was a member of the Chamber of Commerce there but decided to become involved with Sertoma here because of our goals and purpose. Her sponsor was Joyce Seymour. She ended her speech with a very nice quote to encourage everyone to cope with the tragedy that is foremost in everyone's mind today.
Notes
Rumor Corner
  • Lynn Franz, Edie Hindman, and Hawk HawkinsonWhich Sertoman and all around nice guy secretary has joined the political bandwagon with his new campaign for mayor?
  • What did Mike Howard do to Edie Hindman on the boat?
  • What's with the new sergeants fining each other? As you can see by their picture they do need to work on presenting a solid front.

Humor Corner from Brenda and Dave
The Ballad of the Sertoma Hillbillies
The Ballad of the Sertoma HillbilliesHeres a little song to recap our year;/We had to dress like this cause we didn't have no beer/ It seems like yesterday we had begun/ The said be nice and try and have some fun. (Laughter that is)
He started out alone, and it was quite sad,/ They kept asking him is that the best he had./He knew he could use some help up here/ He prayed and he prayed and look what appeared (Brenda that is) Well the next thing you know there's Brenda by my side/ Cuz I can't get Chuck even when I tried./ We soon grew tired of the whining educators/The realtors, bankers and other master Aggravators (Lyrics that is gotta make a rhyme)Now Dave and Brenda couldn't stay apart too long/Thank God there's a podium so you can see her pull my ????/A song and a dance is just the thing you need/While you are burping up the big Bonanza feed. (???Chicken, that is) We went to the Pres to beg for more time./Gary said (NO! We say "Pay your fricken fine."/ We joked and we riddled and we tried to say our lines/All we got from you is whine whine whine (Dale/Rboin, that is) fas 829-7761 Janelle Riley.

The Ballad of the Sertoma HillbilliesWell, its time to say our goodbyes, I guess we came and went/ Remember each dollar goes to our social event./ We both hope you enjoyed yourselves today,/ Regardless if you didnıt you must still pay (that's it that is) (Censored Mickey Mouse Rhyme)

Thanks Brenda and Dave for sharing your humor with us all this past year.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
