Heartland Animal Rescue League is a local organization dedicated to the
four footed companions that brighten the lives of many adults and children
in our local area. They treat each animal as an individual and try to give
them the fairest chance of being adopted.
Donna
Wambeke, President of Hart, was this week's speaker. She took us on a time line of the development of the Heartland Animal Rescue Team from its inception in 1987 when it was established by a group of concerned citizens, through 5 years of foster homes and donated services and goods, to its present day operation which consists of 8 paid staff, room for about 40 dogs and cats and a lot of much appreciated support from the community. In 1992 they were able to
purchase their present facility. They currently operate with a budge of about $150,000 to serve Crow Wing, Aitkin and Cass Counties.
Hart is a non-profit organization that is very involved in the community through education, employment, visits to nursing homes and state facilities with animals, volunteer programs with youth and adults and much much more. They have money available to help with altering and emergency food. It is not a place to dump unwanted animals and they reserve the right to refuse adoptions. As Donna said,
"Please feel free to become a paid member of Hart, a volunteer, or just that occasion person who stops by the shelter to talk to the animals, we appreciate all involvement."

Sertoman of the Day
|
|
|
This week's Sertoman of the Day was Sandra Ehrich. She was sponsored by Erik Bonde and has become a very active member in a very short time. She did an excellent job coordinating the Relay for Life and helped plan the Rookie Party. She is currently helping with the Sertoma Jaycees family golf outing to raise money for the Children's Museum. Sandra is a Real Estate Appraiser and counts her mom, dad, sister, Erik and a cat as her family. She works at Ehrich Appraisals where her goals is to learn as much as her dad knows about appraising. She is an active person who enjoys water skiing, cross country skiing, hiking and crafts. She would like to take more ASL classes to be able to better communicate with students. She works at the Courage Center and teaches swimming at the YMCA.
