Message from Sertoma
International
- Sertoma International has a five year commitment to promoting 400 new clubs. In Brainerd, we have contributed with the formation of Camp Confidence Sertoma and now we have a chance to help promote a new club in Pequot Lakes.
- We are on a GEM Hunt (Good Enthusiastic Members). Please help us meet our goal of at least 6 new members before November 30th.

Club Goals- 2000-2001
Sertoma Spirit
- Grow our club Membership through constant attention to recruitments. If each person on the Sertoma Sharing Tree of Responsibility brings in one new members, we will have 50 new members to keep our club growing.
- Promote retention of existing members through quality meetings, interesting programs, stimulating sponsorship projects, and an enhanced
"Buddy System" for new members.
- BANC a new club in Pequot Lakes. The city of Pequot Lakes deserves to have its own Sertoma Club. We will renew our efforts to complete Milo's plan for a new club.
- Involve all members in pipe and drape projects. Many hands make light work. Let's make Mike Howard's job a little easier!
- Fund the remaining portion of our Haapajoki Fund pledge through one or more dedicated fund raising projects thus not sacrificing other sponsorship projects for this purpose.
- Encourage all club members to attend board meetings. This will help identify members willing to take greater leadership roles in the club.
- Qualify for Operation GEM Hunt recognition by recruiting a minimum of six new members between September 1st and November 30th.

BOARD
MEETING - September 12, 2000
|

|
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mark Puschinsky, Karen Owen, Dave Burgraff, Rick Behsman, Milo Johnson, Beth Burnard, Kim Ellingson, Mike Boen, Gary Walters, Steve Augustinack, Deb Ryan
APPROVAL OF
MINUTES: Minutes were distributed. Rick made a motion to accept. Seconded by Dave. Motion carried.
SECRETARY'S REPORT: No report at this time.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Financial reports were distributed and reviewed. Kim presented year-end numbers. With the year-end numbers complete, they can be evaluated for the following year's budget. Chris Gross will be our liaison at LAWCO as well as Linda Halverson. It was discussed to have an audit. Mike will contact LAWCO to find out the cost. It will be discussed to be built into the budget to conduct an audit when there is a changeover to cover both parties. Kim also requested since Beth will not have the access to the accounts since she is not at the bank that the meeting be changed to a later date or the treasurer be allowed to present figures that are another month back. Change in meeting day and time will be presented during New Business, so this is tabled at this time. Mike moved to accept the Treasureršs Report. Rick seconded. Motion carried.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT: The Budget Planning Meeting is set for Thursday, September 28, 5:15 p.m. at the Mid-America Mortgage Board Room. Mike suggested a luncheon or dinner to assist in BANCing a club in Pequot. Mike, Mark and Jim will get together first. It was suggested that Noon members attend "The Gathering" in Pequot on Sunday. Mike will announce location and time at the Wednesday meeting.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT: We have 2 new member presented: Charles Brenny and Jackie McCall. Karen moved to accept these new members. Mark seconded. Motion carried. Jim Knudson requested a move to associate member. Mike moved to accept this move. Kim seconded. Motion carried. Our membership stands at 166 now! Way to start out the year Mike!!
SPONSORSHIP/CHARITIES: No report at this time. They will be invited to the budget meeting.
PIPE & DRAPE: Mike Howard was not available for a report, yet Mike Boen stated there was a huge turnout for the take down at the hockey camp. Phone numbers have also been added to the sign-up sheets for follow-up. Great Job Mike Howard!
SOCIAL REPORT: October 26 is the Rookie Party at a surprise location. October 5 is the ditch pick.
OLD BUSINESS: A follow-up on Brian Swerine was requested. He had requested a drop, but it was suggested to transfer him to the Rochester club. New membership brochures are in the works, to be completed soon. The plan is to put a photo of the Swingin' Sertomans on the cover instead of the photo of Hopper as requested by some members.
NEW BUSINESS: Mike requested ideas to fundraise for the Hopper fund. One idea brought back from the LEAD conference was "Christmas in the Park". Several clubs do this in the Fargo and surrounding areas and are quite successful. The idea is to have a location that is secluded from view, and can be blocked off to charge admission. Inside this area, businesses are sold space to set up a lighted display. People can then drive or walk through to view the lights. This would not be possible this year. It was suggested to do something to remind people of the fund around the anniversary of Hopper's death October 27.
Mike will check on having the dispatch do an article about the success of Camp Sertoma, the LBJ House and the Hopper Fund. Other ideas were building a "Fantasy Fish House" to raffle off. Any ideas are welcome. Please pass them on to Mike Boen.
It was requested to move the meeting to the 3rd Tuesday as our 3rd Vice President, Jim Potvin cannot make the Board Meeting as he has a standing Clinic meeting the same day and time. This would also accommodate the treasurer reports to remain as they were. Beth motioned to move the meeting day. Gary seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Motion to adjourn accepted.
MEETING ADJOURNED 8:00
Respectfully submitted
Debra J. Ryan, Secretary
