Brainerd Noon Sertoma welcomed Robert Shricker who
is the executive director of Breath of Life. Breath
of Life is a non profit that has been around for 8
years. They are located in Woodland Good Samaritan
complex. Their goal is to help out the loved ones
who are caring for people with dementia at home.
Their goal is to show these patients respect, care
for them and make their lives worthwhile. They enjoy
an opportunity for peer support in a stimulating and
protective environment. Breath of Life has licensed
medical staff on board to help to deal with medical
issues. They provide lunch, assist with baths,
organize physical and mental exercise programs, and
provide support groups for the caregivers. Many
clients are veterans and about 60% of clients are
men. Breath of Life has enabled people to keep their
jobs and still take care of a loved one with
dementia. Robert defined his group as an enrichment
program that takes away the isolationism that
prevails among these patients. He also pointed out
the everyone would have to admit that they know of
someone who is dealing or has dealt with this
problem. Long term care insurance and medical
assistance does provide some help with costs which
average around $70 per day. Breath of LIfe is non
profit and he thanked us for our contribution which
has helped with their transportation costs. |

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.

Of
Note |
Both Carol Paulsen and Andy Isackson have earned their orange
shirts for bringing in a new member.
We
celebrated some very hard work with efforts that paid off
$163,000 in two years at last week's social event .In that time
the club returned $44,000 to the community through Winter
Wonderland and The Pipe and Drape added $35,000. Thanks to the
social committee who organized the Burn the Mortgage party: Kari
Robinson, Laura Beilke, Beth Burnard, Lori Rubin. A special
thank you to Brenda Kelley with her assistant Reed Campbell who
provided food service and grilling. Brenda was a busy little bee
that evening since she had also agreed to cater the Kinship
Picnic which got postponed to the same date. Brenda is
superwoman, she can be in two places at once!!
Gary Walters update was presented by David Downing with some
assistance from John Raboin who encouraged everyone to help Gary
by making comments on his Facebook page. He is really
discouraged because he ended up in Pennsylvania on crushed rock.
We had a great vidoe message from Gary. He was in Amish country
and got a few zingers in for the dog pound. "This was absolutely
nuts, but I did it to raise money for Kinship. So give and give
some more!"

Facebook |
| This is the link to the official Facebook
page for the club. It will now be an interactive
way for members to share pictures and comment on
club activities. As with Walters Wacky
Adventures Page--you can visit it without being
a member of Facebook. Creating a Facebook
account is easy and free. You can limit access
to your page and just communicate with those
people who are really your friends. Signing up
is simple and by creating your "own" page you
give yourself interactive abilities on the
Brainerd Area Sertoma site. You can completely
ignore your personal page if you wish. However,
the profile and information pages may become THE
way for us to update your data base information
in the future. I am also totally available for
phone consultations for people who want me to
walk them through the Facebook site. For
instance--Jeff Fitch has promised me by Monday
you will be able to view his awesome barbecue
pictures. Les Franz also took some photos at the
party and maybe we can get him to join and
upload those!! |

-
Art missed the party--guess what he was doing? Fishing of
course.
-
Reed Campbell might have been a little shy about showing up at
Sertoma to show of his burnt fringes--he had a little explosion
lighting the grill at the party. Thanks Reed for helping out
Brenda who had to leave her husband at the Kinship event!!
-
Inquiring minds want to know who invited all those horrible
mosquitoes to the party. It was a beautiful night except for
them!!
-
Welcome back Jeff Marchand--hope your next three weeks are
vacation weeks not busy at Cub and can't come ones!! Nice to see
Nanci Williams, Clyde Bender, Brian Jelinski,Becky Pakarina,
Aaron Meester, and Keith Kolstad also.
-
Jeff Fitch and a certain blonde lady had a hugging session
before the meeting.
-
Happy Birthday Brenda Kelley. Brenda is a very hard working
newer member of Sertoma. In the last week she has helped with
the barbecue contest, Kinship picnic, and the mortgage party.
Thanks for all your hard work!!
-
Nice Gary Walters slide show today--thanks David Downing from
Kinship.
-
Reed almost got a standing ovation--at least everyone wanted to
make a note that he was late.
-
Welcome new member Dane Erickson with Red house Media.
-
LOAnnism--noticing she always catches people with their mouth
full of food.
-
LoAnn had to threaten to sing in order to get the Sergeants up
to the podium.
-
Jeff Fitch got fined for pretending to be Anna Gorecky.
-
David Downing got fined for admitting he "does windows".
-
Dale Bolt can golf at 12:30 if it is with a client--it cost him
$2. Art had to pay half because he didn't bring any pictures of
the fishing trip-cause they were X rated.
-
Andi Holmes is good at whining. Diane Rook Johnson swears that
Listerine isa good mosquito repellant.
-
Milo is now working for Bonanza.
-
Pam had to pay a happy fine because she called 911 because her
brother's phone butt-called her, then he wouldn't answer and all
she heard was heavy breathing. It was a false alarm (he was
loading his golf stuff in the car) but she learned that when you
call 911 they can turn on your cell phone by computer.
Fortunately only the police, not the ambulance made it to his
house!!
