Emily
Roragen who represented the Brainerd Lakes Chamber was today's
speaker. Her job is Main Street Coordinator and she is focusing
on the area from Oak Street to Kingwood Street. Organization and
fundraising for this program which intends to provide ongoing
assistance to project and programs that promote downtown. Making
the businesses successful is an important part of the economic
growth of our city which is the fastest growing area in
Minnesota. Emily also thought that we were 23rd in the nation in
the development of a micrometro area. To avoid many of the
problems which plague the larger metro areas, this group is
attempting to make improvements to the core area that will
affect the entire region. The current effort is centered around
bringing the holiday spirit to the community. The City, Chamber,
Main Street Program, Community Action and the Brainerd
Restoration Committee have partnered to bring holiday
decorations back to downtown. They are looking for donations to
help make this possible. A Downtown Holiday Celebration is
planned for three weekends in December. The committee is looking
for volunteers, donations, and feedback especially from ordinary
citizens about what they would like to see downtown. |

| Announcements |
| Winter Wonderland Update The big news
is that Ann Sherman with some assistance from Joe Schulte
and Pam Sachs has put together an online sign up system for
the Winter Wonderland staffing.
Simply click here,
fill out the information, and check the days you wish to
work. Feedback is not immediate, it has to be processed
through Joe and Ann. If you do not receive an email
confirming your dates within two days--go back to the form
and try again. The dates you selected were probably chosen
by someone else also. Since this is first come first served,
it is wise to get it done as soon as possible. The number of
jobs has increased since the last newsletter. Steve Mau
urged anyone who can help out (a church group of four or
five, a work group, etc) to contact Joe Schulte immediately
so that they have their choice of days. It is more
beneficial if you have a larger group to schedule them on
three separate days since the basic jobs have to be
supervised by at least one Sertoman. |
| Setting Up the Light Displays Many
thanks to Steve Mau and Jim Grant who are taking a lot of
time away from their businesses to work with the volunteers
in setting up the displays. The work days have been extended
to Monday through Thursday from 10-4 p.m. Any amount of time
will be appreciated. Skill levels range from basic to
advanced. Wear appropriate clothes and tools will be
provided. Jim Grant is having a wire cutting party Friday
evening at 4:30 at Jim's Electric. Please respond to your
email by replying to Steve Mau (click the blue link to open
up a message to him) and sign up to help if you haven't
already done so. |
| Kristine Hoheisel presented the Christmas
Wish List for the Women's Center. If you would like a
copy or would like to know what to donate, just call Kris at
Hawthorne Inn and Suites (218-822-1133). |
| Get your business notes into Pam for
our new section of the newsletter! This is your chance to
let us know what exciting things are happening in your
world!! |
| Service to Mankind nominee search is
underway. Submit nominees to Missy Lake soon |
| No Meeting at Bonanza next week.
Everyone is invited to the Arb for the working lunch. If you
didn't get a chance to sign up today--be sure to let Steve
Mau know that you are planning on attending. You can also do
that on the email |

Rumor Corner
|
-
Mary promoted Brian Jelinski into helping her sergeant
today--Brian of course had a wonderful time and everyone paid
paid paid.
-
Nate Grotsky flunked the ARMS Test. He hides out in the far
corner of the room and forget to pay attention to details!
-
Does Diane Rook Johnson really have a belly button piercing and
a tatoo? Inquiring minds want to know.
-
Jeff was nice enough to give his winnings to the Women's Center
even though he off on a vacation next week.
-
Tami Webb was not here to get the rest of the story straight so
Chuck Brenny got away with not having a pine by blaming it on
her and poor Kari had to pay her fine.
-
Postage Due Paulsen would have gotten a fine today but she
quickly volunteered to take notes.
-
Pooch donated $2 to promote the flue shots for the elderly
program at Cub Foods. He complained that he now could not afford
the shot.

Notes from your President |
Wow! The amount of work that has already been done by a few
individuals to get the Winter Wonderland Project going is
tremendous. Thanks to Ann and Bob Sherman for making the sign up
online a reality--there are so many slots to fill that doing it
at the meetings is not going to be possible or efficient. Get
there early to choose your most convenient times to work.
I want to personally thank everyone who has brought in a new
member in the past few months. If this continues, we will have
no trouble regaining our title as the World's Largest Sertoma
Club. More important, we need to keep all the great members we
have so that we can continue serving mankind in the Brainerd
Area.
Please attend next week's working meeting at the Arboretum.
Everyone should be there even if they cannot stay and work.
If your email has changed, please get that information to Pam.
She is coordinating all the email communication for the Rookie
Party and for the Winter Wonderland so you need to be up to
date! |
