The Festival of Trees continues into its fifth year. Tina Dunlap,
Sertoma member, who organizes this activity for the Good
Samaritan Society was today's speaker. Not only did she share
her information on the Festival but she brought each one of us a
yummy chocolate to celebrate the season. The Festival of Trees
will again be held at Madden's Town Hall with David Allen Pundt
acting as MC for the event. The Good Samaritan goal is to build
a Hospice House to provide comfort care for patients and their
families. The Festival this year will be one big event with an
elegant sit down dinner with beautifully decorated trees and
wreaths available for sale. This year there will be a silent
auction. Tickets are $60 and more information is available on
their website at
www.brainerd.com/festivaloftrees. Businesses and
organizations are again sponsoring the trees, contributing items
for the Silent Auction, and attending the event with table
reservations available for the first time. We are also invited
to the kickoff at Prairie Bay this Friday, October 12th, with
wine and appetizers. Cost of that event is $15.
We
welcomed five new members at the Orientation Meeting held at the
Chapparal on Thursday, October 4th. Pictured are David Downing
from Kinship Partners, Todd Dahl from the Crow Wing County
Sheriff's Office, Joyce Mikesh who is an accountant, Heidi Funk
from the United Way and Shayna McCulloch from Legacy Title and
Abstract. Also attending were sponsors John Raboin, Anna Gorecky,
Pam Bye. Mark Kolkind, and Kathy Nagorski. |

| Announcements |
| What a huge activity week for Sertoma.
Almost everyone was involved in an activity to promote the
club or raise money for activities. We participated in the
Homecoming Parade, we had Sertoma Flags at Homecoming, we
did Pipe and Drape at the Taste of Home in Wadena, and we
had a table rental at Cragun's. Thanks to all who helped
with these events. |
| Our new Rookie Party Chairman Anna Gorecky
would like all rookies to attend next week's meeting
and plan on staying after to launch plans for their Rookie
Party. If you are new to the club and did not help with
Putting on the Ritz, you are automatically a member of the
committee. |

Winter
Wonderland Update--we currently have about $56,000 in
sponsorships and the crew is still out working on more!! Our
float was a big hit in the Parade thanks to Paul Heinlein
and his crew. |
| Kinship Partners is again collecting
hats, coats, and gloves for kids. They can be dropped off at
Crystal Cleaners. |
| See Laura Beilke if you have ideas for
speakers. By Mid December there will be some slots to
fill. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Pam Bye tried to drum up support for being able to collect
double fines today since they got aced out by the school
presentation last week. Nobody went along with it, so she
collected as much as she could!! She even paid a $2 happy fine
for advertising tiara rental.
-
Dave Clausen introduced himself as the secret lover of the
Citizen of the Year. His was by far the most creative intro.
Bill Goers got his zing in by saying no one at his table would
ever be Citizen of the Year since Karen was sitting up in the
front today.
-
Vern got fined for locking Mary out of the Bremer Bank the other
day!
-
Amy Doyle is taking snowboard 101 classes--she thought she was
bidding on one at a recent silent auction and it turned out to
be a wakeboard.
-
Snap Fitness needs to encourage more walking from its
employees--Anna Gorecky got fined for making her own parking
spot right next to the building.
-
If you have raggedy children (Steve Rose and Mark Korte) who
shop at the Goodwill, you might have to pay a fine.
-
John Raboin doesn't pay his bar bills--he owes some free legal
advice to the Chaparral owner!
-
The full house today was attributed to the cold outside. It was
wall to wall people and very cosy. However we did get lectured
about our rudeness to speakers. Our President and Diane Rook
Johnson have a very important point--we owe it to the speakers
to listen more attentively to their presentations.
-
Kinship Partners only has a short time left to meeting their 100
mentor goal. They are really looking for more males to partner
with the boys.
