Program
Brainerd Sertoma Speaker - John NewhouseAn organization that bills itself as a group that expends its efforts to expand and diversify the economic base of a community to create jobs was explained in detail today by John Newhouse, Chairman of the Board of the Brainerd Lakes Area Development Corporation. He became involved in the organization because he is President of Lakeland Mold which is one of the many area companies that have benefited from the program. Others include Lakes Area Mailing, Lindar Corporation, NorSon, Hunt Technologies and many more. In fact to date over 2225 jobs have been created, 220 projects with investments of 160,000,000 have been completed and local governments have been assisted in obtaining $4,500,000 in economically related grants. The organization that was founded in 1985 has achieved a new direction of purpose because of the massive amount of work generated by the Potlatch move. The group formed to deal with that crisis received a grant to continue planning. Vision 20-20 will continue to propose and implement new economic growth for 20-30 years. The group serves Brainerd, Baxter, Jenkins, Cross Lake, Nisswa, Breezy Point, and Lake Shore. Another exciting development is the current talks with CREDY, the Cuyuna development organization.

Remember: Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you can't. Call Patty Hartman.

Of Note:
Please take a quick look at the guidelines for using the mass email. Pam maintains the Yahoo account separately from the database emails to enable quick communications that do not make the newsletter. There has been some criticism of the content. Pam would appreciate any feedback.

This email will be used to communicate with members for the following purposes:

  • Informing of special events and communicating personal information such as hospital addresses or people who need support due to death and illness.
  • It will not be used to advertise business events or for personal communication.
  • Mailings will be kept to a minimum so people will read them because of their importance.
Charlie will be home in a few days for about two weeks and then goes back for more surgery. He talked to Greg Straka yesterday and wishes to thank everyone for their support. He especially appreciated Julia Sullivan’s cheer up visit.
Maggie Sweeney, Nikki Phillips and Jim PotvinWe donate to many causes. Maggie Sweeney and Nikki Phillips are participating in the Diabetes Walk and were delighted to receive a $100 check from President Jim Potvin

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
