Major Jeff Turner who is the Battalion XO/Officer in charge of
the local unit of the National Guard was our speaker today. The
official name of the group is 1-194 Armor Division and they are
one of three battalions in Minnesota. Jeff gave us a lot of good
information contained in the
power point presentation, to get the details click here.
Jeff is a Randall native with 17 years of service, 12 of them in
this area. He recognized one familiar face in the group, his
former commander Dan Holmes. His presentation included the
historical perspective of the Bataan Death March and some very
interesting details about their tanks. |

Thanks Rookies for a very fun and entertaining evening at Ernie’s.
Be sure to visit the picture link listed at the bottom of the page
if you haven’t seen the pictures yet. Special thanks to Denny
Benjamin and Teddy Bear Sound. They accomplished something
significant—I have never sung karaoke before. The nice thing about
the party was their goal to send everyone home with a prize.
Thanks too, to all the businesses that sponsored this activity.
Jim Hanson or Erika Eigner can win their sawbuck if they call Pam
before Wednesday. |

Oct 2 - Sign up soon for Ditch Pick 6 p.m. at Rick Besmehn's. Gary will be serving
his famous prime rib sandwiches. Note that we are starting a

count for the great prime rib sandwich feast. |

Remember: Greeters
(Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people
at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided
with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the
social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties.
You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to
greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket
if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided
by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane
Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |

Sertoman of the Day
|
Dave
Burggraff was today’s honored Sertoman. He took the podium today
for a very special reason. After he explained that he had served
in almost every job the club had to offer, he announced his
candidacy for International Director of the Great Plains Region.
He will be campaigning at the Fall District Conference. He and
his wife Donna have been married for 29 years; they were high
school sweethearts. They have two grown children and a new
grandchild. He enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing. His Little
Falls roots include growing up on a farm. He is very proud of
chartering the Camp Confidence Sertoma Club. He is a partner at
Mid America Mortgages. He was brought into the club in 1988 by
Rick Besmehn. Rick was struggling with a weekend that required
him to be in two places at once—Sertoma and Boy Scouts. His
dedication inspired Dave to join. Dave’s list of accomplishments
in Sertoma speaks to a distinguished and ongoing commitment to
what he calls, “the greatest club in Sertoma”. |
|
|
Of Note: Charlie Bartels and his family are in our prayers
this week. He is having major health problems. The group did make
a get well video today since Gary Walters had his camera here
filming Dave Burggraff’s Sertoman of the Day presentation. Gary
will be a featured speaker at the Fall District Conference. |

Rumor Corner: |
|
|
- Congratulations Deb Ryan, she was overjoyed to announce
today that she will no longer be the only female in her
household after she has her baby girl.
- Welcome back Paul Koering. Lots of hugs and some fun
bickering with Roy Miller should have reminded you of how much
fun you have at Sertoma.
- How come President Potvin was the last to arrive at the
Rookie Party and the one to collect the most prizes?
- We are all wondering if Joe Schulte getting certified for a
handgun is really a scary scary proposition.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the
newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from
reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS
followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just
leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to
collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never
respond.

new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy
to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any
photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow
Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job
or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
