Paul Brown of Best Buy was our very our Sertoman speaker today.
His boss was scheduled to speak but spends most of his
Wednesdays down at the corporate offices in the Twin Cities.
Speaking of which, they will be occupying their new quarters
which is located in Richfield and looks like "three large ships"
in February. The stores had their origins in the Twin Cities
area and were originally called "Sound of Music". A tornado sale
that resulted from one of these being destroyed was actually the
spark that started this corporation that now has 547 stores
across the country. Best Buy is also opening some stores in
Canada where they are keeping the name Future Shop for a time.
If you see 1300 Musicland or Sam Goody, those are also Best Buy
outlets. Paul suggested that if you didn't find what you wanted
at our local store, you should go online and shop at bestbuy.com.
They are offering free shipping for the holidays. The store is
now hiring students for part-time holiday work. About 500
customers a day have visited the local store since it opened in
April. Paul closed with questions and Best Buy's commitment to
return to the community. Fas 829-7761 Becky Hoff. Employees
raise about 2.3 million each year and the corporation increases
it to the 4 million level for the local United Way drives. Our
store should contribute between seven and eight thousand this
year. |

Sertoman of the Day
|
Joyce Seymour was today's honored Sertoman. She had many nice
things to say about Brainerd and her membership in the club. She
came to Brainerd from Oregon and says this area has so much more
to offer than her native state. She has been married for 20
years, her husband works for Thielen's, and she has two grown
children and one 8 year old. She has been an Assistant Vice
President at American National Bank for three years. She took
this opportunity to promote the 50+ checking account being
offered at the new facility. The bank specializes in
construction loans but it is a full service banking
establishment.
Joyce was brought into the club by Lori Abear and says the club
has not only fulfilled her expectations of meeting new people
but has helped to grow personally. Ask her what her nickname LP,
which she has acquired since she joined Sertoma, means. |

Rumor Corner |
- Pam Sachs is not campaigning for her niece who is one of
those "other" candidates for governor. Paul Koering, Kevin
Goedker, and Gary Walters are still all campaigning.
- What computer store folks played hot potato with the ringing
cellphone today?
- Are the pizza cards really good for free pizza when Julia
Sullivan opens Godfathers in January?
- Which local Sertoma prez is impressed with the go-getter
newcomers in the club? And how did she lose her jacket at the
Rookie Party? And congratulations on your new job.
- Which old familiar but long gone face came to Sertoma from
the East Side today and admitted that "I missed a whole
president."
- Star shine--the portable microphone finally worked and no
one got tempted to sing karoke during intros.
- Who is now teaching others the root beer float trick?

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond. |

Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
