Bill Singleterry, President of CBIR, was our special guest
speaker at today's meeting. He was filling in for the track
manager who had a previous committment to check out some
taconite tailings that could be involved in their next big
project. It seems that one of the goals for making the CBIR
bigger and better than ever involves resurfacing the racing area
at the cost of $650,000 to make ours the fastest track on the
NHRA racing circuit. It was a flying visit for Bill since he was
on his way to Mississippi for his 40th high school reunion.
Speaking of flying, Bill's first and almost his last visit to
Brainerd was in the company jet which crashed on its way home
with Bill aboard. He is very thankful to still be alive and able
to continue his work with Sports Resorts International. Bill has
been a part of the firm for 16 years and he spent most of his
summer here. His stated goal is to try and bring a more
"personable" attitude to BIR. Bill stated, "We are all one big
neighborhood" and then went on to explain some of his efforts to
make bridges into the community. They are making progress toward
changing their image to a safer one. One of the big pushes is to
make the area into a multi-use facility including such things as
family oriented nights to bring fathers and sons to the
racetrack together, motocross, RV conventions, and even annual
meetings such as the one the Minnesota Electrical Union has
scheduled at the track this year. He stessed the fact that he
does not want to work in opposition to community wishes and he
welcomes any feedback. He encouraged the Sertomans to use his
number (1-800-433-3604) to make comments and suggestions,
especially those aimed at improving community relations. |

Winners!
The winner of the RCA Flat Screen 20" TV/VCR
combination was Donna "baby" Burggraff. The winner of
the nights stay at Super 8 Motel Executive Whirlpool Suite
for guessing the "Mystery Sertoman (Tracie McFarland) was our
current president Tami Webb. There were five correct
guesses and our Chairman of the Board Gary Walters pulled the
winner out of the hat on Rookie Night.
There were too many great costumes to pick one above
the other, so the Rookies proclaimed all winners in the
highest degree. |

| The
"Silent Auction" was very
successful. The officers brought in some healthy cash for the
rookies. Our Chairman of the Board Gary Walter's two
hour "slave" time block was purchased by Rory Coit. Rory
outbid Wilma Flintstone by $2. Gary's statement "twenty bucks
opening bid is nothing...when I'm elected to office it will
cost you forty" was noted. Rory, congratulations on a wise
investment.
Our President Tami Webb's two hour "slave" time
block was purchased by Robin Loftis with a comment "we're
going drinking!". This was a tremendous back and forth bidding
battle with Paul Gropper who fought bravely for the "no you're
not" crowd, but was defeated by Robin with the highest last
bid. Good effort Paul, rumor has it the ladies are taking you
with them.
Jim Potvin's two hour time block was purchased by
Mark Engstrand. Rumor has it that our 1st VP Jim will be
cooking dinner for Mark. I've heard that Jim is a great cook
so Mark has made a wise move.
Our 2nd VP Rory Coit's two hour "slave" time block
was purchased by Mark Engstrand also. I hope Rory is being
hired to do dishes for Jim Potvin's meal, because if not Mark
has a lot of leaves to be raked up on all his Edina properties
he has for sale.
Our 3rd VP Dave Clausen's two hour "slave" time
block was purchased by Hawk. Rumor has it that Hawk has some
very high roof work at one of the sites which needs to be
taken care of. Remember that fine you gave Hawk Dave? Is there
a doctor in the house?
Our Treasurer Diane Rook Johnson's two hour "slave"
time block was purchased by Verna Hawkinson. Rumor has it that
Hawk gave her the money to purchase Diane because Hawk needs
another helper on the construction site to shovel class five
for a driveway. If I were Diane I would have a pinch hitting
slave...oh Buford, are you busy?
Last, but not least, we have our Secretary Kevin Goedker.
Mayor to be Kevin's two hour "slave" time block was purchased
by Mark Engstrand also. The purchase was not an easy one as
Pam Sachs fought feverishly, but was outbid at the end by
Mark. Kevin's comment "oh I feel that twenty dollars minimum
is a fair amount to start with, but I would give at least
thirty for myself" held true. The winning bid was far above
the twenty dollar opening bid. As a matter of fact, Kevin
pulled in the highest bid of the night. Way to go Kevin!
Unfortunately, Mark Engstrand has plans for your future Kevin.
Rumor has it that Mark is in need of a few "in the gray area"
variances which need approval Mr. Mayor to be. So vote Goedker!

Sertoman of the Day
|
Edie Hindman was our Sertoman of the Day. Since Edie joined the
club she has proved to be a very active member. She is currently
serving as a Sergeant and she was heavily involved in planning
the Rookie Party. She began her speech with a survey that
involved the fifteen different fields she has worked in during
the past 30 years. She went on to explain that she now works for
Fountain Properties, Lakeland Insulation and Lifestyle Builders.
She came here four years ago from Iowa with her husband and
daughter, Chrissy Young, who is also a member of the club. They
are co owners of Young and Company Salon. Her husband was a
farmer but it currently employed at Tanner Motors. Edie calls
living in the Brainerd are her "northern adventure" and she was
especially impressed with all the wonderful people she has met
since moving here. She lives in Lakeshore and enjoys
snowmobiling, motorcycling, feeding the fish and skiing. |

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond. |
