Roy Miller was today's program speaker on the topic, of course, of programs. Both he and Kathy Bittner Lee have been working hard to produce interesting speakers for our meetings Personally, I can say that one of the things that impressed me the most about Sertoma when I first joined was the speakers. I would never have had the chance to meet the new Brainerd Superintendent of Schools. I had no idea how many different ways there were to volunteer your time. It was interesting to find out how people started organizing to build a new library, and the list goes on. Mr. Miller spent very little time speaking and most of the time taking suggestions for programs. Some people are interested in more success stories from new businesses in the area. Others thought politicians in the off-season
did make good speakers. The idea of humor came up and Roy admitted other than the Swinging Sertomans,
he had no idea of how to produce this kind of speaker. An update periodically from the Serteens Club was suggested. A good idea was the one that suggested we hear from people who have fun and unusual hobbies. Another idea would be to encourage older retired people who have lead active and interesting lives to come in and talk about themselves and give us a personal history lesson. Mike Boen approved the idea that any rookie who develops his own program or brings in a speaker, would receive one hour's credit towards a Gem
Award. Thank you Roy for providing us with an opportunity to give input on the programs. An impromptu election survey produced some interesting results. Most Sertomans are not very satisfied with either major candidate but have made up their mind which one they will check off in the ballot booth. The Wall Street Journal listed Minnesota as a
"Toss Up State"
