The Brainerd Area Hockey Association presented an
update on their activities. Mike Blanch, President
of Baha, started with a survey that showed that
about a quarter of the people at meeting had been
involved with the program. The group consists of 450
members, 200 under age of 8. The season starts this
week and ends in February. Tournaments are held
every weekend bringing many people into the area.
BAHA has a separate committee to oversee the
management of the Civic Center Arena and they are
looking for community members to serve. They feel it
is a community resource that needs to be manged for
the whole Brainerd Lakes area. September 1st started
a five year contract that was much debated over the
summer. Their goal is to manage the arena profitably
with the proceeds going back into building
maintenance. Ice users and dry floor users are all
being scheduled and the group's goal is to maximize
both kinds. The previous employees chose not to
reapply for their jobs but the arena has been
staffed with qualified people. Ken Lacy is from the
south and didn't know a great deal about the game
but his daughter is a player. In fact all four of
his children are playing. He works with
sponsorships. Twenty seven teams need sponsors and
they do have twenty four. Sponsors get exposure at
the thirteen tournaments with out of town visitors.
BAHA will be sending out welcoming emails to all
teams letting them know where to go, what to do, and
where to stay. The organization also produces a
monthly newsletter and a website that will promote
sponsors. Team pictures are presented to sponsors
and displayed on site, in the newspaper and on the
website. Coupons and advertising flyers are always
available at the arena. Team sponsorship is $500 but
there are other ways to donate. Businesses get a
discount on being permanently added to the Gold
Board. Contact BAHA for more information or check
out their web. |

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Facebook |
| This is the link to the official Facebook
page for the club. It will now be an interactive
way for members to share pictures and comment on
club activities. As with Walters Wacky
Adventures Page--you can visit it without being
a member of Facebook. Creating a Facebook
account is easy and free. You can limit access
to your page and just communicate with those
people who are really your friends. Signing up
is simple and by creating your "own" page you
give yourself interactive abilities on the
Brainerd Area Sertoma site. You can completely
ignore your personal page if you wish. However,
the profile and information pages may become THE
way for us to update your data base information
in the future. I am also totally available for
phone consultations for people who want me to
walk them through the Facebook site. For
instance--Jeff Fitch has promised me by Monday
you will be able to view his awesome barbecue
pictures. Les Franz also took some photos at the
party and maybe we can get him to join and
upload those!! |

Business Notes |
 Thanks
to Mills Motors for joining our Facebook Family. The
Mills Advantage program saves you money at the pump, the
cash register, and at many online retailers as well. Not
only that, but your purchases add up as 'points' you can
apply toward your next vehicle purchase from any Mills
dealership.
BAHA is looking for three businesses to sponsor hockey
teams. Contact them through their website for further
information. Http://Brainerd.pucksystems2.Com/
