Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

| Sertoman of the Day |
|
Jim
Mayne from Deerwood Technologies and a newer member was our
Sertoman of the Day. He has been with the Brainerd Noon Sertoma
Club for about five months and was sponsored by Thomas Krekow.
He is one of the many people who originally vacationed in the
area and eventually decided after his children were grown up to
move here. Jim has had many technology related jobs including
working on things such as coordinating ATM machines. Deerwood
Technologies was a part time business until the move in 2005.
Although they have only 3 full time employees, they work closely
with their clients in this area, the Twin Cities and now Fargo.
Jim described the work as "managed services" including proactive
and preventative service plans, technology plans and consulting.
The company was described as "nimble" and growing quickly. When
evaluating his choice of a service club, he chose Sertoma
because of their huge impact on the Brainerd Lakes Area. Jim
described his wife as a full-blooded Norwegian who helped him
raise three fine children. Jim has a varied background including
a stint in the navy, some bartending experience, and desire to
make a huge amount of money and retire to a country that speaks
Spanish. He likes ice fishing and golf. His most embarrassing
moment involved an accidental mooning that was part of a sailing
adventure. |

Note |
We
welcomed 5 of the 6 design winners for the Winter Wonderland
contest today. They are pictured and identified. Bonnie
Cumberland presented the group and discussed all of the talent
that was displayed in the 267 entries that were judged. Bonnie
encouraged the children to become ambassadors and get other
students interested in participating in the contest. LoAnn
involved them in the meeting by asking them to lead us in the
Pledge.
Keep Pam Bye in your prayers. She is dealing with a terminal
illness issue with her father. The 2008-2009 Presidential
Recruitment Award for bringing in a new Sertoman was given to:
Steve Augustinack, Douglas Benzer, Pam Bye, Jeff Fitch, Luke
Schumer, and Anita Travica at today's meeting. One of the
focuses of national Sertoma and our club is recruitment of new
members!! |

-
Stevey Ray Mau told us the real story about his middle name. It
is a family tradition to name the first son using the middle
name of the father. Our illustrious president who is shooting
innocent birds out west invented the Ray part.
-
Jim Mayne was very wise in not sharing his most embarrassing
moment until the children left.
-
Bonnie Cumberland paid a fine for being (quote from Big Mike)
"the best impromptu speaker I have ever seen."
-
Heidi funk paid a happy fine because Cub Foods has generously
put United Way on their grocery bags this holiday season.
-
One of our visitors let us know that there will be a foot of
snow by Thanksgiving and the start of Winter Wonderland. HMMM we
don't know whether to believe it or not.
-
Ole was guilt of the no pin fine. The newsletter editor wants to
thank him for helping her celebrate her birthday early (guess
what guys it is no fun to have a birthday that always falls in
deer hunting season).
-
We had our own little version of In School Suspension in the
works today. Ahh brings back the good old days for all of us
retired educators in Sertoma.
-
Rick Besmehn thought Jim was planning his "southern" retirement
in Barrows.
