Today Cher Nelson
and Anne Powers of St. Joseph’s Medical Center Hospice
program spoke to us. Cher spoke on the hospice program they offer to help people
with death. They
have a full team of people to help the patient and the
patient’s family. Anne
Powers spoke on the “Tree of Life” fundraiser.
It kicks off on Wednesday, December 1, 1999, at St.
Joseph’s Medical Center.
There are 500 lights available and for just a $5.00
donation in the name of someone you’ve lost or someone
currently in need of hospice care, you will have a light lit on
the tree. The goal
is to light all 500 lights.
Last year there were around 350 lit.
The money raised from “The Tree of Life,” along with
the personal contributions from estates and families that have
been served by St. Joseph’s Hospice over the years, are used
to provide things for the families and patients that insurance
does not cover. St.
Joseph’s Medical Center Home Care and Hospice is located at
303 Kingwood Street or call 828-7444.
November is National Hospice Month.

“Coats for Kids” drive with distribution Nov. 13.
There will be a box at the Sertoma meeting for hats, mittens,
and coat donations with cleaning provided by Crystal Cleaners. Our club is also considering a donation to purchase new
stocking hats and mittens.
