The
Brainerd area can be truly proud of the outstanding group of
young people who presented at Sertoma today. YAR stands for
Youth as Resources and Laura Beilke brought four of the students
involved in the program to Sertoma to invite us all to Brunch
With Santa. YAR provides grants to young people who apply for
funds for worthwhile community projects. The group consists of
17 adult board members and students who receive money from the
Initiative Foundation which they supplement with fund raising.
Koreann Martin who was named this year's Outstanding Youth
Volunteer remarked, "What we do might not be obvious but we are
able to connect to kids that are so motivated to accomplish
things in the community." Two other projects Koreann mentioned
included Operation Independence which just packed 13 boxes to
send to the deployed troops at Christmas time and the plan to
make Minnesota part of the Americorps Project. The four members
of the group as pictured were: Sarah Pfingsten, Koreann Martin,
Karl Robson and Joleen Barry. Brunch with Santa takes place on
Sunday December 9th from 9 a.m. To 1 p.m. with Santa arriving by
fire truck at 9:30. All elementary school students received a
free ticket but they can only use them if they are accompanied
by a paying parent. Cost for adults is $8 and $4 for kids. The
site is the Forestview Cafetorium. YAR will be volunteering at
the Winter Wonderland this weekend. |

Sign-up for Winter
Wonderland jobs! |
| Joyce Anderson crunched some Winter
Wonderland numbers for us today. Over 1000 cars with
approximately 4300 people in them have seen the displays.
The vouchers indicate that these people are from at least 44
different cities. The money totals ranged as follows:
$6,522.25 from tickets, $824 from concessions, $256 from
pictures taken by Sertoma, $181 from donations for pictures
taken by parents, and $142 in general donations. Everyone
expressed huge thank you's to all who have contributed to
this success. The beautiful program was shared today and
should be available from now on. |
| Anyone who has any holiday collections
that they could "loan" to help make the Holiday Village
more festive should contact Steve Augustinack or Lori Rubin. |
| We will continue to
use the online sign
up for volunteering. Gus encouraged people who had
signed up for inside jobs to bring warm clothes in case they
were needed outside rather than indoors. Part of the problem
with the signup has been the fact that people are not
filling in the whole form. You put your name, email and
phone number at the top, check off the job at the left, and
go to the bottom to hit submit. Otherwise the form is blank
when it goes to Joe and Ann. |
| December 11 and 13th Salvation Army bell
ringing days at Cub Foods in Baxter. Sign up at the
meetings or by contacting Brian Lehman. |
| Bring your piggy bank money next week, Julia
will be passing the hat for the Soup Kitchen. They
serve a hot meal 7 days a week to 80-110 people! Monetary
donations will help them buy the things they need that are
not donated. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Business Notes |

Tami Webb now works for Commander Products which is located in
Deerwood, Minnesota. They deal with innovation and automation
and their motto is "We don't want to reinvent the wheel, we just
want to change the way you crank it." In case you haven't
figured it out yet, they sell boat lifts. Congratulations to
Terry Curtis on his new position at MMBA.
Businesses can still sign up for a light display. The sign
can be placed but the commemorative book has already been
published. Send any interested parties to Lori or Gus. |

-
If
you haven't signed up to be Santa yet, you had better hurry. The
job is so much fun that everyone wants to do it! Thanks Dick
Stoltman for helping Pam S solve a little scheduling snafu this
past weekend when all the schedulers were out of town!
- Welcome Back Tami Webb. Thanks for bringing your new boss
from Commander Products. We appreciate your happy fines because
you love your new job!
- Bob Nibbe will pay for accusing the back of the room of
being feeble minded. Mr. "I am almost retired" Kirkpatrick will
have lots of time to come up with suitable revenge. Brian
certainly looked relaxed and ready for Friday at today's
meeting.
- Pam Bye was trying for sympathy today--ask her about the TV
crushed the taco salads story.
- Thanks for paying my $2 fine from Bryan Jelinski today Rory.
- The Sertoma curlers continue to win. Mr. Raboin is bringing
oxygen for this Saturday's match against the Rotary!
- Kathy Williams quietly donated a whole roll of tickets to be
used for the blue ticket contest. Thanks Kathy!
- Overheard at the Holiday Village, "Wow, this one is so much
better than the one in Fargo!" "My 6 year old must have said
awesome at least twenty times!" and "I never thought I would
live long enough to see something this beautiful in Brainerd."
- CTC ads were masquerading as mistletoe today and some people
got fined for kissing--Andi Holmes and Brian Lehman.
- New member Jeremy Johnson from Northland Construction didn't
know how hazardous it was to work with Bryan Jelinski's wife.
- All of us retired folks paid today simply because we are
being joined by the illustrious Wells Fargo banker.
