Kevin
Thesing was the main speaker of the day today. Not only is he Paul
Gropper's partner in Lakes Printing, but he is a staunch supporter
of the FFA program in the Brainerd School system.
When budget cuts were threatening to affect the school farm and
the agriculture program, he joined many other concerned citizens
to form the EAT Foundation to support Education, Agriculture and
Technology in our schools. Membership in this organization is
growing with over 150 members who have managed to help the school
district realize the importance of agriculture to our local
economy as well as the importance of teaching many skills and
values through the program.
As an Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer, I am well aware of the
influence this program had on hundreds of students in the state.
Agriculture has become big business but it still is very relevant
to curriculum. The ISD 181 Ag Center is located on 80 acres leased
from the county and is unique to the state and almost unique to
the nation. The site serves over 650 high school students a year
as well as partnering with the elementary program and students
from the Mille Lacs area.
It has been renamed the Community Ag Center because the EAT
organization hopes to work with Community Education and make this
truly a cultural center for agriculture in the area. The
organization is attempting not just to deal with the current
budget crisis in the school but to establish long term goals that
will affect the community. Mr Thesing and his group have been
overwhelmed by the response. He remarked, "The number of
organizations who wish to get involved in the facility is truly
amazing."
He went on to say "Values inherent to agriculture need to
continue to be taught in our school system." He praised the two
current instructors, a husband and wife team who have just
received a prestigious Jaycees agribusiness award. If you wish to
become a member, the fee is $20 and Paul Gropper will be bringing
membership materials to Sertoma in the next few weeks or you can
contact Kevin at Lakes Printing. Thanks for contributing you $10
advertising fine to our Rookie Party fund Mr. Thesing. Speaking of
the Rookie Party, we were all treated to a little taste of the fun
today.
The
Rookies rolled out the red carpet, got up and sang with the help
of David Allen Pundt, and gave us some excellent reasons to attend
the party. The #2 reason was that the rookies are prepared to sing
to you. The #1 reason was that they will finally shut up. The
first 55 attendees will be receiving door prizes. There will be
two surprise fund raisers at the party. |

The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half

| Sertoman of the Day |
Matt
Hanneken finally got his opportunity to be Sertoman of the Day.
Bill Goers and President Mau were threatening to fine him because
he skipped the most embarrassing moment part, but he escaped at
the end. Matt began by talking about his road construction days
and said, "Maybe you've seen me on 371 since I worked on all of
the reconstruction from Little Falls to Nisswa."
In 2002 he joined the family business working out of his Dad's
office in Little Falls until they purchased Dittmer Insurance in
Brainerd. The other location which is run by his brother Chris is
in Pine River. They are an independent insurance agency
specializing in all areas.
Matt was born in Buckman, attended high school in Pierz, and
college at Bemidji. He is married with two children. Matt is a
great outdoors man and told us about his hunting shack in Northome.
He described his reluctance to join Sertoma but he succumbed
due to the influence of his employee Lowell Carlson and now he
says, "I am hooked". He enjoys the camaraderie, and he is happy to
be involved in an organization that does so much for the
community. He ended by reminding us that he is a rookie and that
our $20 ticket is buying us at least $100 worth of entertainment. |

Rumor Corner
|
- Dave Pundt as the repeat rookie got a little razzing today
when he lead his group in their ritzy song.
- Welcome back Todd Dunlap, Chris Gross and Rod Converse. You
have heard of the song, "I left my heart in San Francisco"? Rod
was singing, "I left my wife in South Dakota," and it cost him
big bucks. Of course Chris won so much money in the pot O gold
that he is getting a 1099 from the club.
- Jackie McCall had a great customer appreciation week last
week but it cost her big bucks today.
- Mark Korte had to pay a You Are Not The Comedian fine.
- Then there was a long story about Andy Isackson and a
stripper, a male one at that.
- Pam invited Kevin Thesing to sing America the Beautiful or
the Canadian National Anthem if he was lonesome for that other
"R" organization. He declined.
