Dave
Clausen has a goal-to win the Bell Ringing Trophy and bring it
home to Sertoma where it belongs. Actually Brian Lehman and Dave
are collaborating in an effort that hopefully will reduce the
number of paid bell ringers for the Salvation Army. This fun
competition is aimed at reducing that percentage from 48% to 0.
The Army uses this once a year fund raiser to provide the money
for their three major programs to help the community—the food
shelf, the heat share program, and the rent/mortgage assistance.
Captain Brian Reed from the Brainerd area talked about how much
the funds help them fulfill their mission statement which is “to
meet human needs in God’s name without discrimination.” He also
explained that this community has “great hearts”. Ninety percent
of the money raised in the annual drive stays in the community.
Last year Sertomans helped to raise $86,000 which exceeded their
goal.
However,
the cost of hiring bell ringers to cover the spots not covered by
volunteers was $16,000.
The Mayor has proclaimed the November 18th through December
24th time period as Red Kettle time. The Salvation Army has a long
history in the Brainerd Lakes Area; they have been helping out
since 1891. Let’s all sign up to ring those bells and bring home
the trophy!!! |

Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting
people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and
divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for
the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several
duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job

| Sertoman of
the Day |
Amy
Anderson from the College of St. Scholastica was brought into
Sertoma by Joe Schulte. Amy described her job by saying, “I have a
wonderful job that allows me to meet with people at a positive
stage in their lives.”
She is a counselor with the college and it is her job to meet
with students who are interested in attending. She has three
children. Her family is into boating and they have all taken up
water skiing. She enjoys sports because her children are involved
at school but she also likes snowmobiling, biking and scrap
booking.
The College supports Amy fully as a member of Sertoma since our
organization is well known for giving back to the Brainerd Area.
Amy told us a very entertaining most embarrassing moment story!!!
Sandra Bonde is looking for people willing to share
themselves-sign up when the sheet comes around to you!!!!
