Lakes
Area Pregnancy Support Center, a member of CARENET*
(The Christian Action Council), is located at 416 Charles St. in
Brainerd, MN. They opened in February of 1995 and served 140 new
clients in 2004 within a 60 mile radius. Terri Hopman explained,
“Everything we offer to our clients is free of charge.” There are
no income restrictions and everyone is welcome. She continued, “We
walk alongside our clients to equip them to have the baby and to
take care of it after birth.”
It is a locally organized and funded ministry that provides
alternatives to abortion. Their program includes free pregnancy
testing, education and referrals, and testing for Sexually
Transmitted Diseases. They provide a network of support for
parents of teenagers having babies. Surprisingly, their work has
come to include more and more fathers. Their office hours are
`11-4 Monday through Thursday.
One of their needs for their incentive program is baby clothes
and equipment. They take donations of good useable items as well
as cash donations. One important aspect of the program is
attempting to reach teenagers with the message of abstinence.
Terri read a few evaluation notes of their presentations. One
tenth grade girl remarked, “I think I would like to wait since it
will be more rewarding.” Others discussed how the program helped
them to face their issues with sexual activity. Ninety five of the
evaluations are in favor of abstaining. This program reaches over
1,000 students per year. Brian Lehman is organizing a spring fund
raiser for the group, a Walkathon in May. |

Schedule |
| Remember:
Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting
people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and
divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for
the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several
duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job
to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a
ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be
divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club
Treasurer and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |
