Dan Hegstad from Lakeland Public Television returned to tell Sertomans that digital television is coming. The FCC has mandated that all stations
"Go Digital or Go Dark" by the year 2006. He was very reassuring however, explaining
"You will not have to throw out your old television, you will simply buy a converter." He also felt that anyone who sees the advantages the digital system offers will soon invest in a new set. One station will be able to give you many options and be five times more efficient than before. The advantages besides multi-casting will include high definition wall size capability and excellent digital sound. The new televisions will be much wider, 9 units by 16 . The need for digital television is the need to free up radio spectrum space for all the new things such as cell phones that will require space.
Dan also encouraged us to support efforts to fund the changeover for public TV. It will take 46 millions dollars to convert PBS transmitters in Minnesota. Lakeland's bill will be 3 million. The plan is to get 45% from the federal government, 45% from the state and 10% locally. As of yet, the Minnesota Legislature has not acted on this pressing issue.

She has been Social Director, Rookie of the Year, and is currently 3rd Vice President. She has earned the Gem and Centurion Awards and was a charter member of Camp Sertoma. Tami said,
