Nancy Cross, Executive Director of the Brainerd Area Community ActionNancy Cross, Executive Director of the Brainerd Area Community Action group was at her star-spangled best when she spoke to the Sertomans today. It certainly helped that President Milo Johnson presented her with a $1,000 check as a donation to be used, half for the 4th of July Celebration and half for the other community action programs. One hundred thousand plus people visit Minnesota's 4th of July Capital for the wonderful celebration that is family oriented and for the most part totally free. Nancy was very specific about the contributions of local service organizations to this phenomenal success, "Without you this wouldn't happen!" She encouraged us to become members of the planning committee even though Deb Ryan jokingly remarked that, "One has to be dead to get off the committee once you volunteer." She told an amusing anecdote about the Range Manufacturing surprise entries which have included a giant dinosaur and last year's Star Wars float that was built around a road grader, included 18 kids dressed in various costumes from Star Wars, and caused a major traffic problem on its trip from the Crosby Parade to the Brainerd one. Thank you to the social committee for the planning of the Steak Fry at Milo's. Lots of practice went into the entertainment, Milo cleared out his pole barn and provided a wonderful setting, and everyone enjoyed themselves. Those of us who could not attend really missed a great time!!!
