Emily
Larson, Regional Representative for Meals on Wheels was today’s
speaker. She was introduced by Val Fiksdal from Ikon Office
Solutions.
Emily read us a story that she hoped would make us understand
the need for more volunteers for the Meals on Wheels Program. A
simple 45 minutes out of the middle of one day a week, one week in
a month or even every day would mean hot meals to approximately 8
people in the Brainerd Baxter area. A hot meal consists of a meat
potato and vegetable entrée accompanied by milk, bread and
dessert. Part of the problem they have in the winter months is
that many of their regular delivery people are seniors themselves
and they are reluctant to be out in traffic in bad weather. Emily
stressed the personal satisfaction of the job.
Elderly house bound people are
very
appreciative of the service and sometimes their delivery person is
the only human contact that they have that day. Emily encouraged
businesses to take on the responsibility and have employees rotate
through the shift. The question and answer session dealt with
informational items such as the availability of diabetic and
special menus and what happens to those outside the city limits.
Thanks Rita Johnson for taking notes. |

| Remember:
Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting
people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and
divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for
the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several
duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job
to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a
ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be
divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club
Treasurer and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |

| Rumor Corner |
- The weather kept people from the Haunted Corn Maze Fund
Raiser for the Children so they are trying another one—Turkey
dinner Saturday Nov 13th at Nisswa Community Center to benefit
Camron Glassmann and Darby Richmond. Starts at 5 p.m. Adults
$7.00 and 4-9 $5.00.
- Breakin up the Bremer Bunch is hard to do—it took an old
timer who managed to introduce himself between two of his former
colleagues and the one that is taking his place. The new one is
much cuter and has more hair but everyone had to admit they
missed Reed.
- Fred Flintstone somehow has managed to join Sertoma and
acquire a harem—Mike Howard is really jealous. The leader of the
harem won the ticket raffle and it’s a good thing since Fred is
really miserly and didn’t even offer to pay the girls fines for
introducing themselves as “Raboin’s Harem”. Somebody said Fred
Flintstone should have been Barney Fife.
- We heard a nice tale about Lori Ukkelberg from today’s
speakers. It seems she is from Battle Lake which is Lori’s
hometown and knows her grandparents. She thought her grandma
telling everyone about how they drove to the end of the driveway
just to look at their farm the first evening they had
electricity. It was part of her count your blessings and share
speech to encourage us to become volunteers for Meals on Wheels.

community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the
opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as
well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to
thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive
feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the
