Our speaker today had a very special mission and some goals to
achieve when she decided to step before the Brainerd Noon
Sertoma group. First of all, she wanted to tell us about a very
special family—one with 3 girls ages 12, 13, and 14 and an
adorable 8 year old boy. Their mother has died, their father has
M.S. and they are being taken care of mostly by a blind
grandmother. Could you spare some time for shopping, cookie
making, or walking in the woods with one of these children?
Tugging at your heartstrings is Pat Johnson’s main goal in life
since she works for Kinship Partners. She wanted to encourage
Sertomans other than Bob Nibbe, Gary Walters, and John Nelson
(and a few more) to become involved with mentoring one of the 60
young people still looking for partners in their program. She
was very happy with the 150 currently being served but wanted
everyone to consider becoming part of this very worthwhile
cause. Pat thanked Sertoma for its involvement as an individual,
for its contributions to United Way and for helping Gary Walters
raise $10,000 for Kinship Partners with his bike ride to New
Orleans. Pat remarked, “You have been super supporters both as
individuals and in your group working with partners and
contributing to our funding program.” Pat also came to encourage
us to become involved in their terrific fundraiser on Friday,
November 21st at Breezy Point with Social hour from 6:00-7:00
and Chef’s Presentations at 7:00 p.m. This annual event called
the Taste of the Lakes features 8 wine distributors donating
wines for tasting (thanks Dave Pundt) and 20 famous restaurants
from the area contributing their specialties. A purchase of one
of the remaining 20 or so tickets at $50 entitles you to enjoy
everything free. Everyone eats until they are stuffed and
manages to raise $30,000 for Kinship Partners which receives no
outside help from state or local agencies. Pat also thanked our
own Jim Park of AdMax for his contributions to the event. John
Nelson who recently rejoined our organization was featured in IQ
magazine with his Kinship partner who is the second one in the
family who has shared special time with John. When this brother
grows up, there is a third one waiting in the wings anxious to
continue the family tradition. Her closing note was a proud
announcement of the Initiative Foundation Award to Kinship
Partners of a trophy and a $1,000 since they were named $2003
Outstanding Non Profit Organization. |

| Greeter
Schedule |
|
Remember: Greeters
(Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people
at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided
with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the
social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties.
You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to
greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket
if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided
by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane
Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |

A big Thank You to my Sertoma friends for all of your
support and well wishes these last couple of months. It has been
quite an honor to be recognized as Citizen of the Year and then to
win a seat on the Brainerd School Board! I have never had so much
attention! Thank you Jim and the Board for paying for members to
attend the Service Award Banquet, which not only honored me but
other great recipients from the Brainerd Lakes Area. Sertomans
have been a big part of my life in Brainerd and I appreciate and
cherish you all. Reed Campbell |

Rumors Corner: |
- Paul Gropper is on the lookout for baby stuff-cribs and the
like????
- Sandy Bonde has some suspicious story about mono that you
might like to ask about.
- Rick Besmehn wants everyone to go out and get their deer
this week (with their car) and Dale Bolt would prefer that you
didn’t do it that way. Deer stories saw Diane Rook Johnson
outshooting Dave Clausen this weekend. You go girl.
- The President of the Kiwanis got fined for his announcement
of same today (Brian Lehman)
- Robin Loftis has a new nickname—“Bear”.
- Linda Twaddle has a new mission-to get rid of some of the
trees in the woods to make deer hunting easier for Dave
Burggraff.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the
newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from
reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS
followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just
leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to
collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never
respond.

new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy
to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any
