Jim PotvinIn the absence of our President,Tami Webb, Jim Potvin President-Elect filled in wearing both the hat of person in charge of the meeting and guest speaker. Jim's very informative speech gave Sertomans some much needed information about the changes being made at Brainerd Medical Center. Physically the building is adding 60,000 square feet and rerouting the exit so that people will emerge on Buffalo Hills Lane and then proceed to the stoplight, a much safer way to leave the new building. The third floor will deal with internal medicine and include a sleep center. Many children who are diagnosed with ADHD actually have sleep disorders but there are very few centers that deal with this problem. The closest one has been St. Cloud. The ground floor will be three separate areas. The adult patients and elderly will actually enter into a totally separate area to the left. Family practice will stay where it is and pediatrics will be on the far right. The new part of the building will include more private chemotherapy areas, a separate entrance for those who are coming to BMC for plastic surgery, and podiatry. St Joseph's will be moving some services to BMC during their remodeling. The pharmacy will be expanded and a cardiac treatment center in conjunction with a Twin Cities hospital will also be included in the new building. The employees are excited about the fact that their lounge will no longer be in the basement, the facilities include a workout room and showers, and more lockers have been installed. Jim is very excited about the expansion and the fact that about 10 new doctors will be on staff in the next few years above and beyond the current number. This is the third expansion that has occurred at BMC which is totally ownedand operated by the doctors involved. No extensive surgery is available at the clinic. One of the questions at the end of Jim's detailed explanation of what's new at the clinic involved rumors of financial difficulties. Jim assured the Sertomans that the clinic is not suffering from financial difficulties but is instead dealing with a natural slowdown that has resulted from the economic problems and the closing of Potlatch.
Announcements
Watch your email for the Angels for Erika order forms. A non profit fund raiser that will allow people to purchase fine quality bracelets featuring the Angel for Erika symbol just in time for the holidays will help the family keep looking for Erika. The mail will contain individual order forms and group order forms (if you would care to be the contact person for everyone at your place of business or organization). Thanksgiving weekend will give you an opportunity to buy a bracelet in person at the West Brainerd Mall. A website has also been established www.erikasmissing.com

Notes
Rumor Corner
  • Talk to Mike Howard about the SPAM story. If he reads this he should also call Pam Sachs because he finally is the fas winner.
  • Lynn Franz is sporting an arm sling and is not sharing the story.
  • Beth Burnard definitely won the tan contest--her Tahiti tan was much better than Pam's Key West tan.
  • Jim Potvin assured us it would only take him a few minutes to "look like Tami Webb" HMMMM?
  • Dave Clausen is doing something on street corners these days?
  • Hawk was also on vacation and a whole table got fined because he has been gone and didn't have any other reasons to fine people.
  • Les and George cheered the new third floor old folks center and someone mentioned that Les really needs the sleep center to deal with his snoring.
  • The Dog Pound all got fined--not enough women invited to sit at their table.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
