Program
Roy MillerIt is always a pleasure to have one of our own members who is willing to get up in front of our somewhat rowdy membership and speak on important issues. Roy Miller discussed the role of the newspaper in todayıs society and presented some opinions about the speaker part of the Sertoma Program. In asking people to speak in front of our groups there are some definite problems especially with the time. It is very important that the sergeants and the president allow enough time for a speaker to present their information. Roy also thought that we do need to work on our listening skills and try to be more quiet and polite when people are speaking. Roy began his talk about the Brainerd Daily Dispatch with the statement ,"Media has changed since the December 11 attacks" . Newspapermen used to refer to articles about remote areas of the world that very few people know about as Afganistanism, that certainly is not the appropriate in the light of recent events. Small town newspapers have to cope with the fact that they are not going to be able to compete with television when presenting national news. They have to be content with the background nuts and bolts type information. The strictly Online newspaper is not progressing as fast as Roy thought it would five years ago. His next and probably most controversial issue was taking the Brainerd Daily Dispatch to the morning. Economically speaking, this is very feasible and would give advertisers more timely exposure for their ads. FAS 821-1130 Jill Sandberg. Problems would be in delivery especially on those cold snowy mornings we are all familiar with since the carriers would be on the roads in the wee hours of the morning and papers would be delivered by 5:30 a.m. This would mean the end of the paper boys of course. Thanks for a very informative speech Roy.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond. Dale Bolt called but couldnıt come to the meeting and collect. Sorry Randy Phillips you did not win.
Photos Photos Everywhere Whew, over 70 new photos have been uploaded to the MSN Community Page where your hard working photographer is now storing photos. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the photographs of the Ditch Pick (subtitled Dave Clausenıs Bachelor Party and including some photos from the actual wedding dance) either click on this link or cut and paste this address in the browser window: http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw If you are looking for a name to match a face, Pam is also trying to take current head shots of all Sertoma members and providing an online directory at the same location.
