SECRETARY'S REPORT: Thank you from Karla Nelson while she was in the hospital was passed around.
4 New members are up to be accepted today Jennifer Carver - AmeriGas Propane (Dave Bergen - sponsor), Rick Skogen Craguns (Lori Redmond), Steven Christenson Universal Pensions ("Gus" Augustinack), and Christine Kellett Lakeland Public Television (Kathy Christensen). Beth made a motion to accept these members. Mike H. 2nd. Motion passed. 172 members!
The deadline for the matching grant is December 1. It is too tight to get this in by December 1 so we will hold it off for the June 1 deadline, possibly using it for Camp Sertoma.
It was discussed within the Nominating Committee to make the Officers positions more prestigious so not to have to talk persons into the position. I suggested presenting them with an Officers Pin, i.e., Vice-President's Pin. They are $25.95 each. Tom Rosenburger stated this was normally done and must have gone by the wayside for some reason. Tom made a motion to reinstate purchasing these pins for the positions and past positions. Lori 2nd. 12 Yea, 1 Nea. Motion accepted.
TREASURER'S REPORT: Reports was distributed and reviewed.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT: Mike sent around the Crosslake Chamber member list in regards to the BANCing of the Pequot Club. He asked that if anyone saw a name that they felt was appropriate to attend, that they ask this person to attend the next informational meeting Monday, November 27, 2000, 6 p.m. at Hunt Technologies. The Brainerd member does not have to attend.
Mike presented fundraising information that may be of interest to the club. He asked that someone take a look at the info since we do not have a fundraising committee. Gary Walters will look into the Carson & Barnes Circus. They propose we would make $5000-10,000 but it is not known yet for how much work. A coupon book was also presented, but discussion was brought up that we do the pipe and drapes to get away from things like this. The coupon book was turned down we could easily do something similar on our own if we really wanted to and there are too many others out there doing the same thing (Kixters, Hockey, Boy Scouts, etc.)
MEMBERSHIP REPORT: New Members were accepted during the Secretaries Report. We now have 172 members (net 8) enough for the Gem Hunt!! Congratulations Mike!!
The Membership Committee will contact those members that are 2 3 quarters out in dues.
SPONSORSHIP/CHARITIES: Lori Redmond forgot the rewritten Protocol to present to the Board. They met last week and have not accepted anything to donate to at this time.
The committee has put together a letter to be distributed to the principals of the local public and private schools regarding the phonic ear. The letter requests applications for those schools wishing to put in additional phonic ears with the stipulation they will be served on a first come-first served basis and we are willing to pay half. It was suggested to copy Superintendent Jerry Walseth on the letter. At this time, they are checking in to if all of the classrooms from K-3 do have systems. The hope has been to make sure all of the classrooms in the lower grades are covered first and then move on to the higher grades. It was also suggested to get an invoice from the school and then pay our portion so not to pay half and they don't get the system Gary made the motion to give the committee a limit of $3000 to spend on these systems for the year. Jim 2nd. Motion accepted.
PIPE & DRAPE: Music General rented some of the equipment, which they put up and take down themselves, and we make the money.
SOCIAL REPORT: No report at this time. Reminder:
OLD BUSINESS: The Fall District Conference is coming up December 2, 2000 in Mankato. Currently we have 8 members attending: Mike Boen, Dave Burgraff, Paul Gropper, Mike Howard, Gary Walters, Brenda Meech, Kim Hauglie, and Tami Webb. The club will pay the registration fee, members are on their own for hotel.
Mike B. talked to Chris Gross regarding an audit. At this time, LAWCO is unable to put the amount of time into our accounts since Steve is no longer involved. Chris will be talking to Jason Anakkala and Carol Paulson about sharing the accounting duties. If that were the case, 2-3 accountants overseeing the clubıs accounts is better than an audit. An audit is $1,000-2,000.
It was requested to make sure there is the $500 that was "left over" from BANCing the Serteens from last year still in the budget. They are looking forward to that money as they have plans to do some things in the future. It is in the budget.
NEW BUSINESS: The Serteens meeting was last evening. (1st and 3rd Monday of the month, Room A204 at Brainerd High School, Mr. Steve Pelkey is the school liaison),. They are currently cleaning up their roster They held an induction ceremony on Monday, November 6th.
Deb motioned to adjourn. Mike H. seconded. Motion to adjourn accepted.
MEETING ADJOURNED 8:00
Respectfully submitted
Debra J. Ryan, Secretary
