Dave Burggraff, former district governor, is shown with Pete Alexander, current office holder and the governor's flag which will now be displayed at Pete's home Sertoma club. This is Pete's second visit to the Brainerd Noon Club. He joined everyone at the officer's initiation on the Knotty Bear this past September.
Pete Alexander, District Governor, was full of praise and compliments for the Brainerd Area Noon Sertoma Club. As today's speaker, he was quick to point out the fact that our club has continued to show membership growth in the face of a national trend away from participation in service clubs. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the hard work done by Dave Burggraff, Karen Owen, and Bob Ehrich in the past year. He mentioned all of the upcoming events including the Fall District Conference in Mankato, the Little Moran Sertoman Pheasant Hunt in December and the Great Plains Regional Convention in Sioux Falls. He encouraged everyone to attend that convention, promising an exciting and worthwhile event.
His goals for Sertoma are strongly connected with continued support of funding the Jon Happajoki Memorial Fund.
"We hope all the Sertoma Clubs in the Great Plains Region will continue this effort to fund this worthwhile cause that supports Camp Confidence Sertoma's efforts to provide camping experiences for deaf and hard of hearing
children". Double Dollar Raffle Tickets will again be a major source of money to fulfill this promise.
Pete encouraged us to be on the lookout for worthy recipients of the Sai Gow scholarship of $1,000 which is available to one applicant per district. The deadline for applying is January 31st.

Sertoman of the Day
|
|
|
Diane Rook-Johnson was the Sertoman of the Day. She
comes by her speaking ability naturally since she is an active member of the
Toastmasters as well as the first woman President of MALU. She is self-employed as a financial advisor along
with her husband J. Buford Johnson. Their company is called Financial Group
of Central Minnesota. The rest of her family includes Rook and Johnson
children Michael, Terry, Sue Nadine, Gail, Steve and Jay. Her hobbies
include flower gardening and deer hunting and she proudly announced,
"I got my deer on opening day at 4:20 p.m.." Diane was born in Wisconsin and also
lived for a time in Iowa but she is NOT a Packer fan. She has lived in
Minnesota since 1974. Her sponsor was Linda Anderson and she joined Sertoma
this past summer. This was Diane's second opportunity to speak before our
club, she recently gave an impromptu but highly educational speech about
China as a fill-in speaker.

Rookie Party 2000
|
|
|
|
Diane Rook Johnson, Sertoman of the Day, said, "One of the best things a rookie can do is get involved in planning the party!". This year's event was held at the Comfort Suites largely due to the efforts of Marla DeRosier. The theme was
"Margaritaville in Minnesota" and a great time was had by all. Thanks again to a great group of rookies for a well-planned party.
