In keeping with our new idea of utilizing all of our talents as a club to come up with new and different ideas for speakers, Roy Miller organized and post-election panel discussion of candidates within our Noon Sertoma Club. Paul Koering and Gary Walters were both candidates for office while Ginny Haugen-Segler was the manager of Dale Walz's campaign. Dale defeated incumbent Kris Hasskamp in the race for state representative. Being involved in politics is very time consuming, but it is deeply tied to all the great American traditions. Gary had absolutely no regrets about his bid for the mayor post in Baxter. Paul felt much better about his campaign this year versus the 96 one. He felt he ran a very positive campaign. Ginny has plans to continue her political efforts by getting involved in the Dick Ross campaign. Paul is not really sure he would like to continue in politics whereas Gary may be interested in a city council seat. The campaigners closed their discussion with some comments on the Florida recount situation. Gary said,
"There are problems with the national election processes and we need to find a better
way." Ginny thinks that change should be in the counting process. Paul
choose not to comment on the Florida recount but instead encouraged all politicians to remember they work for the people.
