Kathy Williams read us a great deal about the background of the speaker for today's meeting in her introduction. Terry McGaughey is also known as "Mr. Paul Bunyan Trail" and recently received an award for his outstanding work on the trail system. Terry was at Sertoma to share some information and to invite us to the 11th Annual Bike Ride with Jim. Congressman James Oberstar who supports the efforts of Terry and his cohorts to make Minnesota superior in the world in terms of trails. The event is held Sunday June 1st and starts and ends at Whipple Beach in Baxter. The ride is free and starts at 8 a.m. And concludes with a catered pig roast. Space is limited so RSVP to Baxter City Hall. Cost is $7.

The Legislature recently appropriated fifteen million dollars for the trails system and two million of that will go into paving on the Paul Bunyan Trail. Terry's goal is to link Crow Wing State Park with Bemidji, a 110 mile trek. Plans also include the bridge being constructed by the Arboretum. Trail advocates are encouraged to join in the annual bike ride. Pictures are courtesy of the trail web site.

Thanks Cathe Picek for taking notes.

Highlights from the Board Meeting
  • New Member Orientation has been scheduled for Tuesday June 10th at 5:30 at the Chapparal. All new members who have not gone through this process with their sponsors should sign up to attend.
  • It was decided to leave the annual dues at the $400 level even though we are finished with the Regional Convention. Costs seem to warrant it. Ways and means of paying dues have been discussed with some support for credit card usage.
  • Annual dues statements went out today along with the quarterlies. Please get your dues in promptly.
  • Membership remained at 174.
  • Sertoma is sponsoring 4 teams in the Relay for Life.
  • Three new shows have been scheduled for pipe and drape.
  • Bill Goers is still looking for more help Friday evening for the Mariucci Fiesta. If you are not attending meetings and wish to sign up, just go to the Sharing Tree at the top of the page for more information and how to contact him.
  • Watch your email for complete minutes

Remember: As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you can't be there.

Of Note
Tom Krekow, of Aaron Thomas Photography in Brainerd's Franklin Arts Center received an award last month at the annual Northern Light Regional Convention for professional photographers in Fargo, N.D.

Krekow received the Masters' Court of Honor Award for his four pieces and the Judges' Award for "They Tell Me, I Was a Teacher." Tom has contributed many of his talents to both Sertoma and Confidence Learning Center and is a much appreciated member of our club. Congratulations Tom.

Thanks were handed around today--Newsletter Pam didn't get to read one and neither came back so just to let you know Bonnie Cumberland expressed her appreciation for our recent support when her father died and the $100 we contributed to the Soap Box Derby was also appreciated.
Business Notes

Cub Foods is still open in Brainerd, the Bridge is not. Both Veronica Jensen and Joyce Anderson encouraged everyone to join Cub Foods in supporting the Mariucci Fiesta. Since they have taken care of the food, other businesses are encouraged to donate goods and services for the silent and live auctions!! Other donations announced today include a curling membership donated by Raboin Law Office and a subscription to the Lake Country Journal donated by Brian Lehman.

Very nice receptionist desk for sale--see Carole Paulsen who completed her move to her new location this week. She is very pleased with how close it is to Bonanza.

Rumor Corner
  • Karla was entertaining everyone with the limo story. It has something to do with limo driver who died while on the job recently. See Karla for details. She also had to pay a fine for starting a food fight with chicken bones.
  • Diane Rook Johnson is not interested in taking down flags while wearing her formal for the big ball. Mary had to find a sub.
  • Bill Goers offered to teach Sergeant Pasm some new positions twice! She opened herself up for that one with a fine for Brian Lehman for having too many.
  • Jeff Olsen who didn't die and give his dog to Mark Korte last week (he was in the hospital but is feeling much better so he got the dog message, not his folks) was fined for calling Bob Ehrich to consult on proper Sertoma attire.
  • Kathi Nagorski who looks darn cute in her Grandma's Apron is changing Mariucci jobs this year--Bill Goers is very worried about her bartending and getting too involved with the product.
  • Welcome back Kevin Donnay and Reed Campbell.
  • Charlie Bartels is definitely ready to open the Mariucci Pizza Parlour.
  • Greg Straka got the razz madazz for being behind on his dues. In fact a petition was presented to the Prez to get him to move to a different table and quit embarrassing the Dog Pound.
  • Carol Winegar was late today so she introduced herself as "The Tooth Fairy".
  • The shoe parade continues--today we all were directed to admire Rose Hauge's platform tennis shoes. Of course they cost her a fine. Do you suppose Mary has developed a shoe fetish?
