Jeff Olson from Confidence Learning Center shared his
thoughts on the Mariucci Fiesta with Sertoma. One of the
most significant things Jeff said was, "Sertoma has been the
lifejacket of Camp for many years." He went into the history
of the Mariucci Fiesta for those new members in the crowd.
He mentioned the fact that Sertomans were his first friends
when he took his job at Confidence Learning Center. In his
original visit in 1978 on the weekend of the Classic, he
became involved in the Fiesta and met Charlie Bartels and
Bob Ehrich. That was the year that Sertoma starting helping
to feed the participants in the Classic events that over the
years have included golfing, fishing and tennis. John
Mariucci started the Fiesta to bring the participants to
Camp to see what it was all about. Many of the horrendous
problems that early Sertomans pitched in to solve are non
existent any more. Cooking off site at places like the Moose
and Maddens doesn't happen because of the Mariucci Lodge.
The Endres Shelter on the beach is not the site of the
dinner. Food does not have to be brought in from distant
places thanks to Steve Quisberg, Bryan Jelinski, and Jeff
Marchand of Cub Foods. They have also assisted in the bread
making process which has seriously cut down the prep hours.
Sertomans in shifts on Friday prepare and serve the food.
The VP's along with committee chairs Reed Campbell, Joyce
Anderson and Vernonica Jensen, and Charlie Bartels are
organizing the bar, the auctions and the food. This event
truly epitomizes the three "R's" of Sertoma according to Jon
Haappajoki: really working hard, really giving back to the
community, and really having fun doing it. The Mariucci
Fiesta raised about $20,000 for program and campers last
year and is looking to be bigger and better than ever. All
the volunteer support of Sertoma earned the group the very
first ever Volunteer of the Year Award that went to a group
rather than an individual. This is the 25th year for the
fishing tournament and the 35th year for golf and it is
being billed as a "legendary" event with many early
participants invited back to celebrate. Be sure to sign up
with Bill Goers to work on Friday,June 13th. |

Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

Business Notes |
Jeff Olson introduced some trivia questions that
underline how important Cub Foods has become to the
Mariucci Fiesta. Jeff Marchand, Bryan Jelinski, and
Steve Quisberg have lightened the burden on Sertoma by
providing the food for the Fiesta. We love our Cub.
Thanks for providing enough garlic to make the pans peel
off the ceiling, 3,000 + meatballs, 200 lbs of flour, 25
gallons of cooking oil, and all the other ingredients
necessary to feed the multitudes. However, no matter how
many bags of onions Cub sends to Camp, they cannot make
"Onion Pam" cry.
Everyone
is encourage to continue to patronize the Cub Food
Brainerd location even though the Bridge is closed!
Anna Gorecky wants you to know you can visit her at Snap
Fitness locations in Brainerd AND Aitkin!

Rumor Corner
|
-
Pam Sachs rudely interrupted the prayer--something about
sticking it in and letting it play. She was really talking about
the Mariucci slides but it did sound kinda kinky. A very similar
remark to Dale Bolt about his photo disk put her into the truly
embarrassing moment stage. She paid a happy fine today for
keeping her horse (Trouble--how appropriate is that) in the
fence for three days straight.
-
Brian Lehman did a costly imitation of John Raboin today at
intros. Sneaky Bryan Jelinski got appointed sergeant and escaped
his advertising fine.
-
Welcome back Joe Brenny.
-
George Moore had quite a scenario going--Dave Clausen on his
knees, Grey Straka praying. Both of them were "trying to make a
comeback when they hadn't been" to quote the old master.
-
Carole Winegar only opens her mouth to take her foot out of it.
-
Jeff Fitch has been on the radio so much he had to pay $2. He
was one of the many who got threatened with $3 fines for
fighting with our stand in sergeants.
-
Tom Steiger has become a barber-something about a Mohawk ad.
-
Charlie Bartles is now Charlie Brownie or the guy who runs The
Smile Off Center.
-
Bill Goers has never seen a microphone he didn't like. If you
missed Bill at the Convention, he was a credit to all the funny
sergeants we have had over the years. He promised to make
everyone who signed up to work the Mariucci Fiesta a "legend".
-
Mark Korte calls Jeff Olson--Flipper????
-
Randy Phillips' $2 phone in Viagra Alarm fine was paid by Mike
Boen today.
-
Jeff Olson has been a member of Sertoma since 1986. Wow!! His
first trip to Brainerd was as a hitchhiker in 1978. He loves
hockey?
