Mark Bublitz assisted by our own Mary Marana was enlisted to give
us some more information about mental illness specifically how it
relates to suicide. Mark has a long history in the field and is
the executive director of the local Northern Pines Mental Health
Center. Mark and Mary began with a little exercise to show us some
of the misconceptions about this problem. Mark went into detail
about the different types of illnesses and then dealt with some
very direct questions from the audience about how to relate to
people suffering from depression as well as what everyone can do
to avoid this problem. Mental health is directly related to body
health so all of the recommendations for eating well, exercising
and developing good habits that include a balance of work and life
apply to prevention of mental illness. Mark gave us an excellent
Northern Pines handout that gives many facts about mental illness.
The details about suicide included the fact that it is the second
leading cause of death among the 10-34 age bracket and 90% of
people who suicide have a diagnosable mental disorder. Our
president, Steve Mau, had some words of wisdom to live by, "We
must remember that we often compare our insides to other people's
outsides." Mary ended the presentation with by giving us the
Crisis Line Referral Card. |

| Announcements |
| It is getting to crunch time folks. Flag
season is upon us and we are still lacking two flag
captains. There will be a lot more sign up sheets going
around if we can't find two individuals to take on these
routes and line up workers. She also needs someone to phone
businesses to ask them if they want flags. This is a good
opportunity for people who don't have the free time to work
pipe and drape, flags or gossamer. Call Beth today!!!! Her
work number is 8291976 and her email is
bethb@burschtravel.com |
| Cragun's had three different events next week
that will make use of our tables. Scott Fisher is taking care
of lining up the folks to set them up and take them down.
Scott's work number is 829-1270 and his email is
neliquor@uslink.net.
We have a great momentum going on pipe and drape, let's
keep it working for Sertoma. |
| Paul Heinlein announced a gossamer ceiling
date. Set-Up is May 10th from 12-2 p.m. (these have been
taking a lot less time) and Take-Down is May 14th 11-noon. |
| Thursday, May 10th 5 p.m. Vacationland Fun
Park is the start point for the spring Ditch Pick. Poor

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

communication boards provided by Bob Ehrich. Keep these in mind,
we have more available. Tessa will be playing softball again this
summer thanks to our contribution for her ASL interpreter. Take a
Kid Fishing also acknowledged our contribution to their program.
Thanks to Hopper's Mom for her contribution to the Foundation

Report from the Jail-the girls made an excellent orientation
video that included Bonnie the bed maker, Tami and Verna trying
to phone home (the inmates get a debit card that relatives can
add to through an outside ATM), Tami jumped on the not too bad
beds, a fairly good supper and a great chance to watch the
educational TV channels. Julie volunteered to start the fight.
Everyone got a real scare when the building automatically went
into total lock-down at the end of their tour--at least they
know that part works!! It wasn't planned.
-
Kathy Williams wondered how Kari Barnes repaired those marines.
-
Bill Goers Foot in Mouth Award included a name change and a
confusing statement-how many people is Gary Loge going to "do"
at the Ditch Pick? Good job today Bill all by yourself!!!!
-
Bob Nibbe volunteered to get involved in the Cragun's efforts if
he just gets to do skirts.
-
The convention committee has their brochure ready for St. Cloud.
It looks terrific and we will soon get a glimpse of the front of
it when Rory has time to share the file.
