Today was a different meeting with a hoi polloi and a mélange of
topics (President Clausen was practicing his French today so Pam
decided to add a few words to his new vocabulary). To start with,
Dave Clausen gave a brief report on the trip to Dubuque. Two
hundred twenty five people attended the convention which was held
at the Grand River Center. The Great Plains Region has a total of
3083 members in 79 clubs. Minnesota itself has 1.042 with only 16
clubs in the entire region gaining membership. This was one of the
major focuses of the convention, how to expand the Sertoma
program. The Great Plains Region raised $388,981 to donate back to
their communities.
President Clausen also shared several thank you notes. Thomas
Louvey, a fifth grader, thanked us for our help in getting his
glasses. Sertoma began this program under the auspices of Jackie
McCall. Shari Grave from Confidence Learning Center had only
nice things to say about working with the Sertomans at Pipe and
Drape Events. She remarked, “For your advice, patience, and
support during my first Pipe and Drape events, I thank you!” The
American Sign Club was also expressed their gratitude for the
monetary donation to the Mixed Blood Theatre performance of
“Deaf Duckling”.
And finally on the agenda was Flag Co-Chair Mike Howard. We are
still desperately in need of one more flag captain since we have
added about 35 new flags this year. Most of the over $12,000 that
is raised is profit since this is not a new project. Thanks to the
captains who are already on board including Mary Marana/Diane Rook
Johnson, Reed Campbell/Joyce Anderson, Gary Walters, and the
Rookies. Lowell Carlson and Ernie Friedrichs volunteered to go out
and drill the new holes needed for the May 20th Flag Day beginning
of the season. Call either Beth Burnard or Mike Howard if you can
command this flag team for even just the first event. |

see by the pictures. John Raboin brought his crew as did

Schedule |
|
| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you
can't be there. |

John Raboin proved to us today that attorneys can be tricky. He
was railroaded by Steve Mau and decided to get even. When faced
with options A, B, or C for his speech we all chose C, the mystery
choice. John then simply dug out his extensive notes and read
them—the notes consisted of his name. He did share some funny
stuff with us however including how to say “I am horny” in Danish
and the nude dash across the Air Force Academy square. |

Rumor Corner
|
- Welcome back Kathy Bittner Lee.
- Think Mother’s Day Buffet at Timber Mist, if you forget
Mother’s Day Buffet rhymes with Kevin Donnay.
- Other new words we learned today included Focacia Ya Ya Ya,
County Talk, and No Head. You need to talk to Bartels, Clausen
and Gropper in that order for appropriate definitions. Minnehaha
means strong woman by the way.
- Gary Loge was the world’s funniest NASCAR driver at the
Ditch Pick!
- John Raboin was so late for the meeting our President
decided he was having butterflies about his speech and decided
to stay in the car.
- Only 8 more weeks of Clausen—we will definitely miss his
entertaining ways.
- Mike Howard still hasn’t lived down his famous faggot
speech.
- Bryan Jelinski thought he would volunteer to drill holes by
the other grocery store if we could guarantee striking gas and
an explosion.
- Scott Fisher paid a pajama fine today—for his wife, for more
details ask Dave Burggraph.
