Karen
Owen brought two representatives of the American Cancer Society to
Sertoma today to issue a challenge—the Relay for Life is Friday
July 20th from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at Don Adamson Field. We are
committed, hopefully, to fielding two Sertoma teams –the women vs.
the men. Jeff Olson volunteered to lead the women’s team, but he
ended up with the men. A woman’s team leader is still needed. Our
local challenge is to see which team can raise the most money to
find a cure for cancer. Each team member (teams are from 9-15
members) is responsible for raising at least $100. This money can
be raised through pledges, luminary sales, and fund raisers like
car washes etc.
Tom Isle spoke to us about his survivorship. He had lymphoma
and is in remission. Tom says four things are necessary to deal
with cancer—faith, attitude, purpose and a strong medical staff.
We can help by providing money for research to back up these
medical teams.
Sue
Meyer who is the chairman of the team recruitment also is a cancer
survivor. The American Cancer Society was instrumental in helping
her to deal with a brain tumor. She remarked, “With the support of
family and the American Cancer Society, I am here today!” Karen
Owen conducted a survey and could find very few families not
touched by cancer. She will be bringing signs for display for
people in high traffic areas next week. |

| Announcements |
| Flag Update Beth Burnard has the list
of flags sold and would like a salesman or two to contact the
remainder of the people on the list. We have enough flags and
equipment to sell quite a few more this year without investing
any more money. Potential sales profits could be in the
$10,000 range. We have two permanent captains and could use
two more. Right now Jeff Birks is volunteering to head up one
of the remaining teams for the opening event—we need one more
to get started. |
| Meals for Randy and Pam - Mary Marana
is still working on providing meals for the Bye family—be sure
to contact her if you haven’t signed up to provide a home
cooked or restaurant meal. |
| Sertoman of the Day Sandra Bonde is
looking for lots of Sertomans to sign up for Sertoman of the
Day. June is completely free—so new and old members
volunteer. |
| Annual Dues those of us who wish to
pay our dues annually need to do so on the June billing since
that is the beginning of the Sertoma fiscal year. Any
questions—see our treasurer Joyce Anderson. |
| May 7 - 9:00-4:00 Diamond in the
Rough Day. Confidence Learning Center—come for all day or
just an hour or two to help make Camp shine for the summer
season. Sign up sheet next week so they know approximately how
many to expect for lunch. Please share this with other
service, business and church groups—all are welcome to help us
meet our goal of one hundred workers to make light work. Dock
installers need waders and those people who can loan their
power washers are most welcome! Many of our members will be
gone to the Regional Convention so if you can help, now is the
time. Please sign up at the next meeting. |
|
May

| Greeter
Schedule |
| Remember:
Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting
people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and
divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for
the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several
duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job
to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a
ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be
divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club
Treasurer and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |

| Sertoman of
the Day |
Paul
Keprios told us a rather lengthy most embarrassing moment that
involved the use of props. As you can see part of the story
involved monkeys and throwing his keys in the cage. The other part
which he has not shared with his wife involved her car—we are not
supposed to tell. We want to thank Vern (Veronica Jensen,) and
Joyce Anderson for playing the snow monkeys. Paul was
sponsored in Sertoma by Brian Kirkpatrick—so one does not have to
guess where he works. He is a Business Banker at Wells Fargo which
has branches in Brainerd and Baxter. His family is originally from
the Brainerd area and he and his wife Hilary moved back here from
the Metropolitan area. They have been married four years and do
not have any children. They have been in Brainerd since February.
Paul has already volunteered to be the Mariucci Event Volunteer
Coordinator so expect to be hearing from him soon. |

| Photos Photos Everywhere New photos
go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This
community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the
opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as
well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to
thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive
feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the
current photographs or check out the new online directory go
