Jean MershonWould you like to learn how to use a handgun and get certified to carry one? How about learning small business management techniques one on one with a qualified instructor? Would you like to know how to manage your farm better? Would you like to train your employees to be more efficient? Do you need help because the law has changed and some of your employees need to be certified for their jobs? Where can you go for the answers to some or all of these questions? Jean Mershon, one of the newer members of Sertoma, spoke today about her work at Central Lakes College in the Business and Industry Center as well as giving us some background about herself, and entertaining us with a wonderfully funny personality inventory. If you are interested in taking the "test," see the Rumor Corner. Jean chose to return to Brainerd where she went to high school after twenty two years in Duluth because of the quality programs being offered by Central Lakes College which she had attended. She works with the Business and Industry program mainly in the customized training that includes such things as the Chamber Leadership Program that many Sertomans have participated in including our President Tami Webb and team building. Her area of expertise is the Meyer/Briggs aptitude test. She also writes grants and has been involved in 10 of them. The business and industry center was involved with the Potlatch closing and the efforts to retrain workers and attract new business to take over the plant. The goal of the business program at CLC is to build cooperative collaborative efforts in the community. Their stated mission is as follows, The CLC Business and Industry Center provides education, training and consulting to customers so individuals and organizations can achieve their business goals and objectives. Jean herself said, "It's an exciting place to work; you get involved with all different components of business". Greeter Schedule
Remember: Greeters (Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you can't. Call Patty Hartman.

Regional Convention Report
Our area was well represented in Minot. We sent 39 people from our district, 17 of which were Brainerd representatives. Eight of those people including Tami joined people from the Twin Cities, St. Cloud, Northfield and other places on the train for a 7 hour trip through the dark to Minot. A total of 242 people attended. Our Board Chairman, Gary Walter, said, "We may not have gotten our bid for the 2006 convention but we had the best hospitality room thanks to the jello shots made by a wonderful bunch of people". The food was wonderful and the tours were very well organized. Congratulations to Deb Ryan who was District Secretary of the Year.

Take the following personality test and then click on the link to find out what it means. Jean had everyone laughing at themselves today with this fun test. She also told us we needed to laugh at least 17 times a day just to be healthy.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life.
