Program
Shawn Kobs“Hoofing it for Hart” was the major topic presented to Sertoma today by Shawn Kobs, Kennel Supervisor for the Heartland Animal Rescue Team. Along with encouraging us to participate and support their biggest fund raiser which will take place rain, snow, or shine on May 4th 2002 at the Northland Arboretum starting with registration at 930-10:00 a.m. followed by a 4.2 mile walk, she shared her enthusiasm for the work that Hart does. As Shawn said, “This is a great opportunity for animals and their owners to share a day and raise money to support our animal shelter at the same time.” Walkers are encouraged but not required to bring an animal. Fas 829-7761 Jolene Jensen. Prizes will be awarded for a number of different categories and a special award will be presented to the team that raises the most money. The event kicks off “Be Kind to Animals Week” and helps support the more than 1500 homeless animals that are served annually by this local shelter. Shawn also shared with us some of the misconceptions about HART that she hopes will soon be dispelled with the hiring of an executive director for the site. FAS 829-7761 Dean Zenner. Every effort is made to find suitable homes for strays and to reconnect animals picked up by animal control with their owners. The facility can house 20 dogs and 20 cats with isolation for sick animals, has an impound area for pets whose owners have met with accidents and even utilizes foster farms for bigger animals. Their placement rate is 75% which is good but Shawn would like to see it go much higher. The shelter has a whole list of much needed items that can be donated and always welcomes volunteers to work.

Thank You
Sertoma and Mike Howard--Thank you very much for the time spent on the pipe and drape for the Home and Patio Show. Your support of the MMBA is greatly appreciated. Thank You Cheryal Lee Hills.

Dear Swinging Sertomans--Thank you hardly seems adequate as a response to the terrific donation you gave to the Kinship Partners volunteers. It was an evening to remember. Please accept my sincere gratitude on behalf of the board of directors, our staff and all the volunteers. You are one terrific bunch of men. Sincerely, Pat Johnsten

Notes
Laura BeilkeGEM Good enthusiastic members are hard to find. We get 30 new members a year and only a few of them get to the GEM status. Today Sertoma congratulated Laura Beilke and gave her her GEM plaque.

Keep Keith Lunneborg in your thoughts. He and his wife just had premature twin boys who are hospitalized in Minneapolis.

Find a Sawbuck Corner:
The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
