A busy day back to the regular meeting saw these three lovely ladies grace our presence with their uplifting message about the American Cancer Society and the Relay for Life. Allison Collins (left) was here representing the ACS Staff. Pat Hasset is in charge of Media and Publicity for the Relay. Kathy Buxton (right) is the Chairman of the event. Pat took a moment to express her thanks for the award she received at our meeting as well as the recognition she got at the Regional Convention where she became the Great Plains Candidate for the national Service to Mankind Award. The Relay for Life which was described by Kathy as
"the premier fund raiser for the area" took in $137,000 last year. This yearıs goal is to reach or top $150,000. Pat then went on to explain how this money impacts so many important local programs such as
"I Can Cope". It encourages recovery programs and provides funds for early diagnosis. It helps disseminate free information to people affected by cancer. You can access this information by calling 1800ACS2345 or going to the web site at
www.cancer.org. Each of us was asked to think of how cancer has affected someone close to us and the raising of hands was almost unanimous in the room. The video was inspiring and we should all consider signing up for a team or at least going to Don Adamson Field on July 27th at 10:00 p.m. for the lighting of the luminaries. These are candles in bags inscribed with the names of cancer victims and are purchased as donations to the cause. Last year over 7,000 were lit. The race starts at 7:00 p.m. that evening and will include many fun events for families and and expanded menu so that visitors can plan on eating their supper while they attend the festivities. It concludes at 7:00 a.m. the next morning. Sandra Ehrich and Paul Gropper are organizing our teams this year. They encourage everyone to sign up for the team or contribute to their sponsorship goal of $100 per member.

Joelle Schmidt, one of our newest members, introduced herself to the group today. She is in transition at The Office Shop and has gone from customer service manager to administering their new ecommerce effort. She
is married to Al Schmidt and they have a 7th grade son. She and her husband spent a lot of time moving around the country when he was in the army. She graduated from Brainerd and considers it her home town. She talked about what an inspirational person her father was because he went back to school to be a lawyer when she was 12 years old. Her husband is a dirt track racer so that is one of her major hobbies along with
snowmobiling, golf and crafts. Her dream for the future, "To put my God-given talents to good use every day; to improve my relationships with God, my family and my friends and to give back more than I take." Lynn Franz was her Sertoma sponsor.

Hopper was again a big part of this year's Convention. FAS 829-7761 Carole Paulsen Dave Burggraff is pictured with Brainerd Noon Treasurer, Beth Burnard, presenting the Foundation with the monies collected through the Fellows for Hopper drive that put us over the top on our commitment to provide the basis for the fund. Hopefully, with many other Sertoma clubs contributing, the ultimate goal will be reached and Camp Sertoma will be funded in perpetuity. |
Gary and Karen Loge send their thank you for the flowers during their recent bereavement.
Bob Ehrich very generously donated his FAS money to the Hopper Fund. Carmen Green didn' collect.

This rather large group includes most of the people who attended the Great Plains Regional Convention last week. Included among them are the three Pequot Lakes members (Connie Sundlie, Julie Ellis, Mary Goodman), Pete Alexander, Tommy Brush and his wife, Tom and Sheila Reding, and many recognizable noon club members. FAS 829-7761 Melody Banks Not only did Pat Hasset win the regional honors for Service to Mankind but the newsletter staff was the winner of that contest. Congratulations to all.
