Kay LaFrance talked to us today about her new job which she describes as
"passionate" in a place where "you can actually make money doing what you love." The Northland Arboretum is a place where you can visit and see nature's healing process at her finest.
The arboretum consists of 540 acres right in the middle of our community including what was at one time a landfill, a Red Pine plantation, and a Jack Pine Savannah. It's mission statement is ,"The Northland Arboretum, an outdoor nature conservatory is designed to promote intelligent conservation and high standards of ecology with a year-round display of our region's flora and fauna, through workshops and seminars, and by providing outdoor recreations that appreciates and respects our natural plants and wildlife."
Kay discussed the various groups that are involved at the arboretum Through their members, they have purchased and paid for the Red Pine plantation. She spent a lot of time discussing the Girl Scout Secret Garden and the fact that it has now been moved to a place that is more accessible. She hopes to encourage other groups to become involved and was enthusiastic when someone suggested our new Serteen group. Another exciting event is the public tour of private gardens planned for this summer. Tickets will be sold and everyone is encouraged to join the tour. Kay hopes that after 20 years in the publishing business that she will be able to plant enough trees to replace all of the trees destroyed in her previous jobs, a very worthy goal.

Thanks to all of the people who made the Ditch Pick a big success. Paul Gropper drew for the last two gift certificates (awarded to the folks who found the
"feet" planted in the ditches.) Melody Banks and Lowell Carlson were the winners. The other two certificates were awarded at the social after the Ditch Pick. |

Thanks also to Pam Sachs for her nice editorial in last week's bulletin. President Milo Johnson also thanked Pam for her many pictures which have graced the tech edition of the newsletter.

Both Jim Potvin and Melody Banks were on the campaign trail (someone else who is really campaigning all over the county got fined for impersonating a business person).
Jim gave a short speech on his own behalf and Bonnie Franke encouraged us to vote for Melody. Elections will be held next week at the regular meeting.
