Program
Jean Maaske is in her twelfth year of working with the Grad Blast. She is now the head of the program which has been in existence for 24 years. It is more and more successful and more and more significant each year. She described it as " a memory to treasurer--kinderfriend day for the seniors." IThe party begins at 10 in the evening after the ceremony and goes to 5 in morning. Jean summed it up as about 500 people in controlled chaos having a great time. Pizza and food is available all evening. Eighty five to ninety two percent of the class usually joins in. Five hundred seventy two students will graduate this year and Jean hopes that every single on of them will attend. The hypnotist is the highlight of every Grad Blast. Jean thanked the group for our continued support of this wonderful event including both moeny and volunteers. It is the behind the scenes efforts that make this event happen. LoAnn remarked about how awesome it was to see these 17 to 18 year olds having good clean wholesome fun. It is a misconception that you have to be a parent of a senior to be involved--come join the fun even if you do not have a senior student. It is very overwhelming at the end of the year for the parents so they are looking for volunteers from other areas. There is no such thing as enough volunteers for that evening. The two areas that need the most help are registration and security. They process everyone in about an hour at the entrance. Security people are rotated throughout the events and it actually is better not to have parents involved in this part of the activity. Most senior parents are stressed by the end of the school year and extra hands to take their place at this activity will always be most welcome. If nothing else, Jean invited us to stop by and see a bit of the excitement that night.

Sertoman of the Day
Carol Winegar donned her tooth fairy attire to encourage everyone to have their laugh for the day and to help the Dog Pound understand her occupation. Carol is a dentist who has worked in Brainerd for the past 26 years. Her husband Mike who got her into guns is now occupying Dick Stoltman's old job as DNR Chief Pilot. Carol comes from a family of achievers--two of her siblings are also dentists. Her hobbies include stained glass and golf but hunting tops the lists. She and Mike are planning their third hunting trip to Africa. Joe Schulte who was her sponsor has also been her patient for 26 years. She and her partner at Bender Winegar are located at South 6th Street. The business employs 15 people. She waved her gun around and remarked, "It's all about the fairies and the guns--its drill and fill time folks!" Carol has a wonderful sense of humor and has been a great addition to our club. Her most embarrassing moment involved being stopped by a policeman who accused her of dragging her dog behind her car down the highway. Actually it was just the dog chain but since her husband worked with the police department at that time he was more embarrassed than she was.
Of Note
One of our nameless sergeants decided to make up a little slogan for some of our more reluctant volunteers who sign up for activities and then don't show up. It has actually become a tribute to our fallen in action comrade Tad Hoskins. His recent illness has left a giant hole in Sertoma. We can no longer say, "Let Tad do it." We miss you!!!!

Thanks from
Jonathon W. Aga Thank you very much for your gift of scholarship. I deeply appreciate it. Your $500 gift will aid me in paying for books and tuition at St. Olaf College this coming year. Again, thank you for your support.

Maria Lendobeja I would like to thank you for your gift of Scholarship. I will be attending Moorhead State University next fall for Speech Pathology. It has been very difficult senior year for me trying to decide the right college and career path for me. I decided to enter a Speech Therapy Career after spending some time shadowing Sally Ward through the school district. I saw her work as very rewarding, making a difference in the lives of others. I will have all my general credits done after a couple of classes this summer and can complete my degree much sooner. I will have to earn a Master's degree before I can practice and look for a job.
