Program
Sertoma continued its efforts to encourage attendance at both the St. Cloud Regional Convention and the 2008 event to be held in Brainerd. Beth Burnard was the featured speaker on "Wow in St. Cloud" which is coming up in May. She shared her first experience which included a very "interesting" ride with such dignitaries as Mike Howard and Jeff Olson. She concluded by saying, "We are far too close not to go to St. Cloud and encourage them to come to Brainerd in 2008."
Joe Schulte and Sue Slaybaugh presented a "teaser" introduction to some of the plans which are in place for our Regional in 2008. The speaker is someone former Secretary of State Colin Powell has described as "an inspiration". Sue presented an amazing number of awards and achievements for the mystery speaker including visits to The Today Show and Good Morning America. People Magazine wrote one of their most touching stories in 1997 about this person. The mystery guest is associated with the comedy field including live spots on Fox, and A & E television shows. Sue also shared some raves from people who had heard this person's motivational speaking ability. Joe went on to acknowledge the chairmen of the committees: Activities-Laura Beilke and Cheryal Hillls; Registration-Kristine Hoheisel, Sara Nelsen, Nanci Hallam and Kari Robinson; Hospitality Room-Julia Sullivan, Scott Fisher and the Bemidji Sertoma Club; Entertainment-Lori Rubin; Decoration-Kristin Larsen, Joyce Seymour, Veronica Jensen; Display-Sue Slaybaugh; Cookbook-Cathe Picek; Golf Tournaments-Sunrise Sertoma, Dale Bolt, Dave Burggraff; Swinging Sertomans-Steve Augustinack, Texas Hold-em-Gary Walters; and Bonfire/Beach Party-Tami Webb. Joe reminded us that we have only 60 weeks until the actual Regional Conference at Maddens and also encouraged everyone who attends the St. Cloud event to be an ambassador for ours.

We also had a birthday surprise celebration for our illustrious president. Steve Mau, who turned 40 today. His lovely wife Maureen and his daughter Anneke brought in black balloons and a cake to share. Steve shared the exciting beginning to his birthday day. He got an early morning phone call from his security company who reported that the burglary alarm was going off. His mad dash down the highway ended at General Rental where he got to see the lovely black birthday balloons that were waving in the breeze created by the furnace and obviously the culprits. Congratulations Steve and thanks for the cake.
Thanks Mary Kolkind for taking notes.

Rumor Corner
  • Thanks Tom Rosenberger for sharing his minnow eating prize as described by Melody Banks. As you can see by the picture, it is a hidden side of Mr. Rosenberger. Thanks too for filling in as chaplain.
  • "No checky, no shirty" --someone's new motto. Attorney Raboin dressed the part today and got harassed by everyone.
  • Diane Ulmen-lost, found and welcomed back.
  • President Mau thanked Julia for her excellent job filling his shoes last week.
  • 1871 is being touted as the year after Dale Bolt graduated from high school.
  • Everybody voted on the mystery fish--it definitely wasn't walleye, northern or crappie.
  • Speaking of fish, the dog pound got the business for not celebrating their win but Mr. Bolt explained that they all had "fish camp voices"--something like the second week of deer camp?
  • Sergeant Bill wants to be appointed Pledge Starter so he can get out his boy scout uniform and see if it still fits.
  • We celebrated belatedly with Jeff Marchand who skipped the country for his 50th last week.
  • Vern paid a fine today because she wasn't Jim Hanson. Hmm maybe our Sergeant needs his eyes examined--we have several nice places with Sertomans. Jackie McCall or Andi Holmes would be glad to help him out.
  • Guesses as to the identity of the mystery speaker were Hillary and Cher. Personally I prefer Cher.
