Fifteen
Sertoma women volunteers are going to star in a video in the new
County Jail on April 26th. Sheriff Todd Dahl visited today to
invite the Sertomans to participate in their efforts to check out
the brand new jail facilities. These brave volunteers will don
jail attire and be photographed to provide the inmates with an
instructional video on jail procedures. The men were not quite so
quick to sign up so there are still openings for the male video
stars on April 27th. They will be living like inmates for about 4
hours from 5 to 9 p.m. If you are interested, contact Sheriff
Dahl. Watch the newspaper for details on the Open House if you
would just like to visit the new 287 bed facility.
Sheriff Dahl used his gun and his handcuffs to muscle out our
scheduled speaker. Actually Pauline Barker from Heartland Home
Health Care volunteered to return in two weeks with her
presentation. Todd actually had a lot of fun cracking jokes,
noting Sarah Nelson's appropriate attire (jail stripes and an
orange jacket besides), and making fun of people who had to live
in Cass County.
He settled down and got serious and remarked, "You are such a
wonderful group we thought we would ask you to help test the
facility." He went on to talk about his long term goals. He
assured people that his state of the art facility was still just a
jail and definitely was going to be a "strict" area only. Mike
Boen had him elaborate on what that meant. His other important
advice to all, "The people of Crow Wing County have to feel
comfortable calling into the Sheriff's office." Improving
communication with the community is one of his top priorities. |

| Sertoman of the Day |
Karen
Munsterteiger completed the three musketeers duo of Sertomans of
the Day. She followed her two friends Anita Traveca and Carol
Winegar. She talked about her husband of twelve years, Dave, and
her 5 children. She loves softball, cooking and walking. Karen is
involved with Discover Leadership and has achieved the Master
level in the program. She is currently the Director of Accounting
at MidMinnesota Federal Credit Union which has been her job for 18
months. They have 6 branches and are a not for profit financial
institution which serves its members. She was born in Little Falls
and has held several other jobs in the area. Anita was her Sertoma
sponsor who brought her to a meeting when she finally had the time
to become involved with a service club. Karen had a great bunny
hopping moment in softball to share with the group. Her witty
repartee, especially with Brian Kirkpatrick, let us know from the
beginning that here is another one of those enthusiastic fun
rookies that will make an outstanding contribution to Sertoma and
enjoy every moment of the experience. |

We are all saddened to learn about the difficulties that Dave
Berggraff and his family are facing right now. Dave is in the
hospital in St. Cloud and will be there for a while. Rick Besmehn
is organizing a crew to go out and help Donna get Vacationland
ready to open. Watch your email for details. She sends her thanks
to all the Sertomans who have already included them in their
prayers and called. |

Rumor Corner
|
-
Welcome "new" member Doug Campbell.
-
Welcome back Cheryal Lee Hills.
-
Joe Schulte had to shorten his convention speech because of the
law enforcement spy in our midst. The goal for 2007 is to have
at least 30 people from Brainerd at St. Cloud. Presently they
are at 27 and giving away teaser gifts to encourage people to
sign up.
-
Melody Banks made winning a joyous experience. The "good" corner
was a great place to sit since she was right next door to the
Pot O Gold winner.
-
Mike Boen and Kevin Donnay were doing a great three stooges
routine at the table today but Bonnie Franke just didn't make a
really good Moe. Mike got zapped for not knowing his radio cash
call total.
-
We all want to know the rest of the story--what did go on in
Indiana Karen and Brian?
-
Tammy Webb was disappointed in her "present" she thought maybe
Todd had brought everyone breathalyzers.
-
Our own wonderful prayer lady had to pay a touchy feely fine
today. HMMM
-
Anita Traveca wins the prize for being in the most embarrassing
moments--and gosh she hasn't even been in Sertoma for a year.
-
Cass County people are not second class citizens!!! We have a
great Sheriff too! (There's one deputy however who is on the
bottom of my good guy list--see Pam for details)
