Shelly
Trimble was back before us to advertise the Lakes Area Women’s
Expo which will be held Saturday, March 20th from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. at the National Guard Armory. This event is being
advertised as being “back by popular demand” and that is
certainly the case since they have filled their quota of 42
booths and are still refusing requests for them. The decision
has already been made to move to the Civic Center next year.
Besides their usual exhibits on women’s health care issues, self
defense, fitness, child car safety, romance, education, beauty
tips, and home decorating ideas they are focusing on things for
the younger crowd this year. This year’s new feature will be
“Bridal Boulevard” with fashion shows at 10,12, and 2 including
the first world famous Cake Dive at 2:45. Free tote bags are
given to the first 500 visitors and you can still take advantage
of the Tote Bag Advertising Opportunity. For a fee of $50 the
tote bag can include your advertising or giveaway. Proceeds from
the Expo go to support non-profits in the Lakes area that assist
women and children. Bring your used cell phones and
non-perishable food items for the Mid Minnesota Women’s Shelter.
Corporate sponsors are “Her Voice” published by the Brainerd
Dispatch, CTC Communications and Ronda Jean’s Bridal. For more
information call Shelly at 218-851-1974 or email
lakesareawomenexpo@msn.com. Shelly had to admit that our
fun-loving group intimidated her tremendously on her first visit
because she was brand-new to the area. She seemed much more
relaxed and even got a humorous zinger in for Joe Schultes. |

April 21 - April Fools! Gosh Pam thought she was being smart by
saying that it was not an April Fool’s joke that we had changed
our meeting place from Bonanza to Jack’s House. Guess what? The
joke is on her since she got the date wrong. We will be meeting at
Jack’s on April 21st! |

a charity which is definitely regional. |

Remember: Greeters
(Be sure to take care of your duties that include meeting people
at the door and getting the ticket money counted and divided
with half going to Tami to give away and half to Diane for the
social committee's budget). As greeter you have several duties.
You need to arrive about 10 minutes early. It is your job to
greet people, help them find their badges and sell them a ticket
if they wish to participate. The money collected must be divided
by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Club Treasurer (Diane
Rook Johnson) and half goes to the Club President along with the
bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody if you
can't. Call Patty Hartman. |

Sertoman of the Day

It
is so much fun to take a picture of Cheryal Hills because she is
so photogenic. Her enthusiasm and fun-loving nature shines
through in her pictures and her presentations. Cheryal and her
husband Mike are looking forward to two milestones this
year—their 20th anniversary and their 40th birthdays. They have
three children, the oldest of which is a junior and the youngest
an eighth grader. Her hobbies got her into trouble when she was
working at Mid Minnesota Builders. She loves to hunt and fish
and decided to organize her own fishing trip to Canada after
hearing all the stories from the likes of Dave Burggraff and
Brian Kirkpatrick about their annual fishing trip. It seems she
offended a few of the natives accidentally and her and all her
friends had to make a hurried exit from a local watering hole.
She wears several hats professionally including Lake Country
Journal but she decided to tell us about Community Sound and
Security, the company that she and her husband own and operate.
They established the firm in 1994 and currently they have four
employees. They specialize in low voltage custom systems
including security, central vacuums, phone systems, home
theater, and intercoms. She does the payroll, accounts payable
and receivable, and what her husband calls schmoozing. She
joined Sertoma because she was working at Mid Minnesota Builders
with Laura Beilke, her sponsor, and she has always respected the
service to mankind mission. In her year and a half in Sertoma
she has joined the Membership Committee, and helped with the
Rookie Party in 03. |

Mike Howard spoke before the group today on the importance of the
flag project. Tami Webb and Joyce Seymour have filled two of the
slots of coordinators for selling the flags. Mike is looking for
at least two more volunteers to cover the territory. He remarked,
“This is more than just a fundraiser even though it will probably
make more money than any of our other efforts. This is a national
heritage project that belongs to everyone,” he continued. The cost
to Sertoma has definitely decreased with the donation of $6,000
worth of flags. Monday, March 15th, the committee will meet at the
Log Cabin to continue formulating their plans. Pick up your flag
agreements from Mike and take them back to your place of business.
Get some for your friends too!!! If Julia Sullivan and Deb Kohan
have gotten all the way through this and call in they can win
their ten dollars for reading the newsletter carefully. |

Rumors Corner: |
- Did you know they are now making a PT Cruiser Convertible
and you can see one at your very own local dealers—another
amazing bit of trivia gleaned from listening to the
introductions.
- Did you know that John Raboin can’t tell a microphone from a
hamburger bun? Maybe that is why the sergeants suggested that he
apply for the job that is being advertised at a rival infamous
law firm.
- Paul Gropper finally got fined for . . . . . . you guessed
it groping. Is the honeymoon over?
- Where does Kevin Goeker put his pin just for Lynn? Inquiring
minds want to know.
- Can this new use for safety pins catch on? If it does
remember that Mike Howard has applied for the patent on the new
and improved falsie tester.
- Rumor has it that Julia may be employed. It has something to
do with Gus but they are keeping it under wraps for now because
it isn’t a done deal.

The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the
newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from
reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS
followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just
leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to
collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never
respond.
