Will
there be another war soon? What will we be fighting for? When is
it worth fighting? When is freedom worth fighting for and why? I
believe there are three reasons we should fight for freedom. One
reason is people need and deserved to be treated fairly. We need
to fight when people are in danger or when cruel people are the
leaders of countries and armies. I don't know if there will be a
war again soon, but I feel sad when I think of all these reasons
for wars.
People need to be treated fairly. Slavery is a reason to
fight for freedom. People aren't property. Civil rights for
minorities is a battle around the world. In the United States of
America African-Americans and women have had to fight for their
civil rights. Another reason we have to see that people are
treated fairly is because some people are rich and others don't
have enough food to eat or a home.
Another reason for fighting is when people are in danger and
need help. Some people were held in prison for no crime. Food
and other resources aren't shared, like in Iraq where the
powerful people control the food and medicines. The laws weren't
fair, when King George of England taxed the people in the
colonies. That was a time to fight for freedom.
Finally, there are many cruel people as leaders around the
world. Hitler was one of those people. He killed thousands of
people by gas. He controlled the people with fear. Saddam
Hussein is another leader who gave his people no choice. They
had to follow him or be killed. Osama Bin Ladin is a third evil
man. He uses terrorism and violence to get what he wants.
When is freedom worth fighting for? I believe we should fight
for freedom if everyone is not being treated fairly, when people
are in danger and need help, and lastly when cruel people are
leaders. It is scary to think that there might be a war soon. I
hope there isn't one. I would feel much better but I also am
afraid of the cruelty of some people in this world. |

Place: Nick Swenson - Cruelty is
a cause for war |
Misery,
gloominess and sorrow. To me these words mean the opposite of freedom. I
would not like to live in a world like that. When our unity as "one
nation under God" is in jeopardy, we must fight. When kids have
nightmares about terrorists, we must fight. When our American dreams are
threatened, we must fight.
When terrorists destroyed the twin towers, they were probably trying
to rip our unity apart. Instead, they made it stronger. Abe Lincoln
said, "United we stand, divided we fall." We must fight to keep our
unity strong and our freedom alive.
Terrorists scare all people, but when they start giving children
nightmares, we know we must fight. Children shouldn't have to worry
about loved ones and bombs. My dreaded nightmare is having to build a
shelter against war. Nightmares are a sign we're losing our freedom.
We must also fight when we lose our American dreams of world peace,
equality, and justice for all. Losing these dreams is losing freedom. I
hope our dreams of peace spread to all nations, so war and grudges will
cease.
Freedom is worth fighting for when our unity is threatened, kids have
nightmares, and our dreams are threatened. I hope you will fight for
your freedom. Just remember you can fight with words more effectively
than guns. |

Place: Anastasia Buscher - Many reasons to fight for freedom |
There
are many reasons to fight for freedom. If you wrote them all
down, tied them in a knot, and stretched them out, they could
probably fit around the earth. Two reasons within this chain
would include fighting when our nation is threatened and
fighting when family and friends are hurt or afraid to live
life. We must fight for the freedom we treasure.
First of all, freedom is worth fighting for when our nation
is threatened by terrorists with bombs and deadly chemicals. Our
existence depends on the clean air, water and food that our
country is accustomed to. We must fight to maintain our way of
life and freedom throughout America!
Freedom is also worth fighting for when our family and
friends are hurt or afraid to live life. Hijackings, shooting
and explosions have killed many loved ones, and our hearts begin
to sink as we miss them. Our minds become trapped behind an
invisible wall of sorrow. People have become scared to go to
work/school, leave the house, or even relax in fear of bad
things happening. This is not an example of freedom at all, and
we must fight to get it back.
In summary, I think freedom is worth fighting for when our
nation is threatened and when our family and friends are hurt or
afraid to live their lives. As long as we
