Program
The Paul Bunyan Nature Center visited Sertoma and presented some information about their program. Bee Ward and Carl Samuelson had an excellent power point presentation that covered the various aspects of their programs for people of all ages. Some examples include nature hikes, a 4 H Club, winter survival class at Forest View, and hands on environmental educational opportunities of all kinds. Their goal is to teach conservation which can start at a very young age and to promote recreational and educational opportunities for environmental stewardship. They have grown since 2002 from 86 members to 1822 in 2005. They have also doubled their yearly visitors numbers. Bee encouraged us to participate in one of their upcoming special events, “Meet the Bearman”. Dr. Lyn Rogers who has worked closely with black bears for 38 years will present at Cragun’s on April 8th at 7 p.m. There is also an opportunity to view his documentary on April 8th at 1 p.m. at the Center. Both events will have admission charges. They encouraged businesses and individuals to become members and sponsor activities at the Center. Bee had a little fun with our President, Dave Clausen. She called him up and handed him a little box. When he opened it up and she brought out Nels the baby milk snake, everyone wondered if he would actually hold the little critter. Well Mr. Clausen definitely fulfilled his role as leader by making friends with Nels. Nels is one of the many critter attractions at the Paul Bunyan Nature Center that also has resident beavers and two trumpeter swans name Rex and Gracie. If you would like more details, visit them on the web at www.Pbnlc.org.

Thanks Pam Sachs for taking notes!

Sertoman of the Day
George Moore graced us with his Sertoman of the Day speech today. George is a native of the coal mining region of Pennsylvania and met his wife of 55 years while in the service. He has been married so long he commented, “I cannot remember being single.” She was a Brainerd native and they ended up back in Minnesota where he spent his business career in the food industry starting with Red Owl and ending with Super Value which by that time had become Cub Foods. He joined Sertoma in 1992 with Dale Bolt as his sponsor, and his motive for joining was not only to give back to the community but to become part of a co-ed group. George remarked, “Female is always a quality I have liked in a person.” Then he decided to stay in Sertoma to make Les Franz feel young. He is one of those members who is the backbone of any group, someone you can always count on when you need them. We especially appreciate his coordinating our yearly Cub Food brat sale.
Of Note
A special thank you from a special lady, “Well Laura and I are enjoying the Mexican Sun and probably a little of the beer! I wanted to be gone when Dave would be reading this to all of your for I am too sentimental and would start crying! I can never thank you all enough for all your love, prayers, flowers, cards, food and hugs. I want you all to know you helped me and my family go through a very difficult time. Many people ask me why I joined Sertoma. I look at them and tell them why I stay in Sertoma. This is why—I know many of you had things going on in your own life-having babies, your own family sickness and life problems, but you all found time to think of me and help out in some way. No other club does good in the community and makes sure their fellow club members are getting what they need like Sertomans do. They are a family and I am so thanksful for Mary Marana getting me into the club and being such a great friend! We are an extended family to each other and again I say a very big thank you for me and my family.” Love Pam Bye

MOSES & THE RED SEA
Nine-year-old Joey, was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday school. "Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the Red Sea, he had his army build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked across safely. Then, he radioed headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved."
"Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his mother asked.
"Well, no, Mom. But, if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe it!"
