Program
Carole Paulson introduced today’s speakers since they were from that “other” club of hers. Carole has been a member of the Paul Bunyan Toastmaster’s Club for about 16 years and she recommends it highly to everyone. Their president, Chris Hastings and his VP Michelle Oie, gave us a very polished and amusing demonstration of their craft. Our group got a “boisterous” compliment from Chris after Chuck Brenny immediately recognized that Chris was giving us clumsy faux paux from our President, George Bush. “Paul Bunyan Toastmasters is a group that allows you to practice speaking skills, improves communication and leadership skills, and teaches you to be a better listener,” according to Michelle. They supply a positive learning environment that promotes these skills when they meet every Friday from 12:00-1:00 at the Sawmill Inn and every first and third Wednesday at 7:00-8:00 a.m. at the same location. Their membership fees are very modest and joining will cost only $34 for six months. Michelle also reminded us that this group helps you to deliver great presentations, easily lead teams and conduct meetings, give and receive constructive evaluations and network with others.
Thanks Mike Howard and Amie Anderson for taking notes (Karla and Bryan have started a trend here)!
Announcements
Gull Lake Frozen Fore is scheduled for March 4th and 5th-big new family and community fun activity. Call Camp and ask for Shelli for more details! It is being billed as the largest golf and snowmobile event in the world, but people are traveling by car and bus also.
Pipe and Drape will start the middle of this month and go for about 6 weeks full steam ahead. If you are a sponsor of a new member, this is a good way to get them involved. Call them and invite them to go to a set up or take down with you.
Thanks to Julia Sullivan for taking on the job of banner refurbishing and to Anderson Cleaners for the discount.
April 27 thru 29 - Great Plains Regional Convention in Dubuque, Iowa. Learn more about what is happening in Sertoma by attending meetings and make some great new friends with all the fun activities. Sign up at the meeting or see Kari Robinson. On the home front the Board voted to include the dues raise to finance the 2008 Convention in Brainerd. The next nine quarters will see $10 added on to everyone's dues. This surcharge is non-refundable and will be used to cover expenses as they arise. Brainerd Noon Sertoma members are all registered to attend the convention and prepaid through this charge.

The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets. Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you can't be there.

Sertoman of the Day
Veronica Jensen continued the Bremer Bank girls sharing their stories as Sertoman of the Day. Veronica is married to Gary and they have two girls. She also likes to make scrapbooks (Joyce does also), spend time with family and friends, and shop. Veronica volunteers at her daughter’s school. She works at Bremer Bank at the Baxter location, which is one of four locally owned branches. She is a personal banker who works with lending, home equity, personal loans, and new accounts. She has been working there for 8 years. Her sponsor was Joyce Anderson and she joined the club because she heard that John Raboin was a member (definitely said with considerable sarcasm). Actually Veronica has dived right in and participated in many events including ditch picks and pipe and drape. She is a member of the sponsorship committee and was an active rookie. She listed her most embarrassing moment as the put a sock on it fine she paid a few meetings ago. Pam would ask her, “What about the porn star?” and Joyce had something even more embarrassing that she wouldn’t share. Thanks for bring some fun and enthusiasm to Sertoma Vern!
Of Note
We received a plaque and the traveling trophy for our efforts at bell ringing this year.
Rumor Corner
  • Dick Enrico was back selling slightly used mufflers today.
  • Jeff Olson is taking Pam Sachs to see the Beach Boys and wants everyone to know.
  • Jason Bertram paid a Miss Manners fine for not sending out his wedding thank-you’s in a timely fashion.
  • Welcome back Deb Ryan.
  • Clausen was really excited about Vern’s personal 800 number—of course Dick Stoltman was even more excited because he thought it was a 900 number.
  • John Raboin personally paid Vern $10 to mention his name in her speech.
  • Chuck Brenny got custody of the Salvation Army Plaque—it was his reward for recognizing our speaker’s Bush quotes.
  • Bremer Bank received a big boo from the other bankers today—Brian Kirkpatrick has made two meetings in a row just to hear about the rivals.
