Program
Every spring the Brainerd Noon Sertoma Club sponsors the National Heritage Essay Contest for elementary students. A typical contest gets well over 200 entries from fifth graders throughout the district which are judged by a volunteer team of Sertomans. The 2002 Sertomans who judged the essays included Chairman Bruce Heilman, Reed Campbell, Robert Ehrich, Sandra Ehrich, Keith Lunneborg, Brenda Meech, Karen Owen, Jim Potvin, Pam Sachs and Elyssa Weber. The topic was "When is freedom worth fighting for?" First place winner Devin Larson who is in Mr. Koehler's class at Baxter received a $100 savings bond which was matched by Liberty Savings Bank. Stephanie Morgan who attends Lincoln and wrote her essay for Mrs. Younghans received a total of $150 in savings bonds. Third place winner Katie Klasky was the proud recipient of $100. Her teacher is Mrs. Warren at Baxter. Teachers and parents were honored guests at the Sertoma meeting on March 20th to hear the winners read their essays. The committee also awards several honorable mentions based on the number of entries. A matching cash prize of $20 is included for these winners. Honorable mention went to Whitney Joyce (Mr. Koehler-Baxter), Emmet Umlauf (Mrs. Sauer-Riverside), Jesse Anderson (Mrs. Gardner-Lowell) Taryn Ruttger (Ms. Ziegler/Hodgson-Nisswa), Kaylee Gill (Mr. Anderson-Baxter)Ronald Enno (Mrs. Larson-Harrison) and Travis Boyd (Mrs. Agre-Baxter). The top three essays are published in the Brainerd Daily Dispatch along with photos. Both Sertoma and Liberty Savings Bank believe that encouraging young people to value their community is an important part of service to mankind.

Sertoman of the Day
Sam FossSam Foss who was brought into the club by Kim Hauglie was Sertoman of the Day on this busy lobster and heritage Wednesday. Sam works at the bank in Deerwood as VP in the Real Estate Department. He was born and raised in Western Montana where he spent the best seven years of his life getting his four year degree at the University of Montana. He has been in Virginia and Seattle and came to Brainerd one year ago with his wife Lucy and his two children Cole and Casey. Sam is an outdoor person who loves hunting, golfing, and fishing. fas 829-7761 Steve Augustinack His most embarrassing moment was about ending his basketball referee career on a high note at a Montana state tourney where he ripped his pants in the middle of all the action. His dreams are centered around success and happiness for his children.

Notes
Find a Sawbuck Corner:
The FAS Program was designed to encourage people to read the newsletter. Even those who attend the meeting can benefit from reviewing the announcements etc. If you find the letters FAS followed by your name, you must call the number provided and just leave a message that you called and attend the next meeting to collect your money. Simple--however 90% of the people never respond.
Photos Photos Everywhere New photos go up almost every week on our new MSN Community homepage. This community is for the club, easy to join and gives you the opportunity to add edit or delete any photos that are posted as well as leave messages for fellow Sertomans. It is a good way to thank someone for doing a good job or give them some positive feedback for a big event in their life. If you wish to view the current photographs or check out the new online directory go to:  http://communities.msn.com/BrainerdNoonSertoma/_whatsnew.msnw
