Program
Steve TrummA large group of busy Sertomans took time to stop and listen to a very important speech given by Steve Trumm from the Northern Lakes Area Red Cross, a district formed eight years ago when Cass and Crow Wing Counties merged. Steve commented on the similarities between Sertoma and Red Cross, "We both take an active and dedicated role in service to the community." He then went on to describe in detail the important work that the Red Cross does. He also encouraged Sertoma business leaders to take advantage of the many health and safety programs in workplace education for OSHA that help to fund our area Red Cross activities.

The Red Cross in Brainerd dates back to its charter in 1917 when it joined the national group that has since grown to include 1.2 million trained volunteers, 23,000 paid employees and about 2800 chapters nationwide. Donations and the health and safety programs help the Red Cross focus on single family fires and weather related emergencies on the local level This same Volunteer Disaster Action Team which always needs new members can be called on for state and national emergencies. Their other area of expertise is their blood and tissue services. The local blood drive collected 570 units this year, an all time high. The youth programs include a chapter of FATE (Fighting Aides Through Education). AFEM continues to provide services to local servicemen and women. Anyone interested in being a volunteer or serving on the board is urged to contact Steve at the new office behind McDonalds. Join a group that according to Steve, "Turns your caring and concern into immediate action!"

Congratulations
Congratulations to Deb Ryan who received her Gem Award at Wednesday¹s meeting along with Randy Phillips who was given his life member award. Bonnie Cumberland graced our meeting with her entertaining presence again to receive her plaque which was missing at the last meeting (Was it Reed Campbell or Mark Korte who solved the case of the missing plaque? ) She thanked everyone again .

Our other special visitor was Sheila Redding who would like to be an International Director for the Great Plans Region. She encouraged us to attend the convention and above all, to vote for her.  Sheila is well-known in Sertoma for her work throughout the country in leadership training.
