Bridges of Hope Executive Director Tami Lueck was planning on
letting the television do her talking for her today, but our busy
meeting and our enthusiastic sergeant limited her time at the end
so she shared her personal experiences with Bridges of Hope
including some heartfelt stories about people who have benefited
from their program. This organization was established in 2002 with
the goal in mind of combining the efforts of human services,
churches, and businesses to provide community support and
resources to those in need in the Crow Wing County community. They
extend themselves to help strengthen, stabilize and support
families whenever they are needed. The staff links resources to
people and follows up to make sure that referrals are successful.
They create partnerships, linking parents and children, provide
education and work with volunteers, do home visits, and provide a
crisis nursery program. Bridges of Hope provided services to 1100
people this past year. For more information go to
www.bridges-of-hope.net to learn how you can get involved, how to
refer someone, or to send them information about a community
activity that fits in with their program. She also invited us to
the Summer Garden Tour for Thursday, July 12 beginning at the
Lutheran Church of the Cross at 8 a.m. It also includes lunch at
Grandview Lodge. Price is $45 and proceeds go to support Bridges. |

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.

| Sertoman of the Day |
Darwin Larson who recently joined Sertoma was sponsored by Darren
Larson. Darren and Darwin met at a Chamber function and Darwin
introduced himself and asked about Darren's family since he has
over 100 first cousins, many of whom he has not met. Darwin is
Senior Financial Advisor at the Cornerstone Group which is located
in Baxter and Wayzeta. The company includes 3 advisors and 2 staff
members and they deal with retirement planning, financial planning
and asset management. Darwin has thirty years of experience in the
field but joined this organization last summer when he moved to
the Brainerd area. Darwin has something in common with Gary
Walters in that he has been active in the Kinship program along
with parenting his three daughters. He does have some previous
experience in Sertoma years ago in the Fairmont Chapter where he
was a charter member in 1974. He firmly believes in the Sertoma
motto of having fun while giving back to the community. He likes
golf, biking, boating, traveling to warm spots, and casual fishing
(see rumor corner for definition). His personal history includes
growing up in the sixties when it was fun to be a kid, college
basketball and a stint in Vietnam. Welcome to Sertoma Darwin. |

Rumor Corner

-
Casual fishing is a great way to describe catch and release
because you don't like to clean fish.
-
Happy fines abounded today. Bonnie Cumberland thought she had
been stood up by her 18 year old lunch date but he did come in
late. Laura Beilke announced her new job at Northway
Construction.
-
We thought that the flags were all covered until Paul Heinlein
had to announce that no one wanted to help Bill Goers. Two fine
upstanding Sertomans did volunteer to suffer through take down
with our illustrious sergeant.
-
Dave Pundt is finally an inducted Sertoman again. He threatened
to quit and start all over again. He must like planning rookie
parties!
-
Gary Walters has 65 more pounds to go.
-
It was Joyce, Joyce, Joyce, Joyce and rejoice today. Joyce
Mikesh is joining and was sitting with Ms. Anderson and Frid. Of
course someone named Raboin jumped in there too but he likes to
pay his fines.
-
Doug Campbell is giving gigolo lessons to Greg Straka.
-
Charlie Bartels has been promoted to Poor Gary's Bait Boy
-
Fiesta Oles abounded today--President Mau decided Ole was Ok
cause you could eat pasta while drinking a Corona to make it
work.
-
It was I love My Cub Day--Bryan graciously acknowledged the
thanks but reminded us that we really need to thank the person
in charge--so if you see Steve Quisberg, voice your appreciation
as a member of Sertoma and/or supporter of Camp Confidence.
-
Congrats to Chuck Brenny and Dave Burggraph on becoming mutual
grampas. In their honor, every grandpa had to pay a fine today.
-
Our SOD has a nickname he inherited from his grandpa. We now
have Uncle Art and Uncle Jack.
-
Shaving off your hair is not a recommended way to lose
weight--especially not with Sergeant Bryan on the case.
