Stand
up comedy was definitely a part of the presentation today by Rod
McCulley and Travis Svoboda who represented the Crow Wing County
Jail Transition Team. They brought with them a diagram and
explained the new jail to the audience. The Dog Pound of course
got threatened with some first hand exposure to the new facility.
Plans are to move into the new jail in 2007 with tours of the
facility available by spring. This new 75,131 square foot building
has been built to include 6 housing units plus a holding area with
286 total beds. This county facility will deal with inmates
serving overnight to three year terms. According to Rod, "This is
a unbelievable project and you have to see the building to realize
that."
The
new jail was built in cooperation with Cass County that will
continue to finance a percentage of the expenses. The jail will
employ 45 supervisory personnel which will almost double the
current number of 26. The program will stress behavioral
management with inmates having numerous opportunities to
participate in a variety of jail programs that benefit both the
inmates and provide increased amount of structure throughout a
normal day thus leading to a more peaceful environment. The
Sheriff's office is continuously looking for ways to improve these
programs and welcome the help of any and all volunteers. Crow Wing
County has one of the busiest jails in the state and Rod expects
that we will be utilizing that space without being able to "make
money" by renting it out to other cities. It is, however, designed
to expand to 500 beds in the future. |

As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
