Through
the auspices of Wells Fargo Bank, the Brainerd Noon Sertomans got
to hobnob with celebrities today when the Minnesota Wild Out State
Touring group came for lunch before their stop at the Civic Center
to sign autographs and meet their fans. Brad Bombardir, Community
Relations Liason and member of the original Wild team, Tom Reid
former North Star and Radio Analyst, Marc Chouinard Center, and
Kurtis Foster Defenseman comprised the hockey players segment. The
two ladies who also joined us were Emily Gausman and Maggie Kikaiz
with Minnesota Wild Broadcasting.
Robert Musielewicz, VP from Wells Fargo, gave us the background
info on the team members and Tom Reid. Tom is a familiar face to
those of us who go way back at the Camp Confidence Classic when
the golf tournament used to include a lot of hockey greats from
the North Stars. Kurtis led all the Minnesota defensemen in points
in his rookie season. Marc played in a career-high 74 games last
season and established career bests in goals, assists and points.
Brad who is currently rehabilitating a knee injury was the
speaker for the group. He talked about his experiences on the
inaugural team and as a member of the Stanley Cup New Jersey
Devils. His wife is from Walker Minnesota and he considers this to
be a second home. He and his wife love the north woods area and he
remarked, "God bless you for spending the winters here!" after
talking about their summer home near Walker. His talk focused on
the fans. He said, "When we go outstate we are shocked at how much
the people in Minnesota love hockey." Only in Canada can you find
fans as dedicated as the ones in Minnesota where all the
exhibition had home games for the Minnesota Wild are sold out. He
got quite a laugh when he explained that in a lot of arenas in the
NHL there are lots of people dressed up as seats.
The fans were the focus that brought pride to the Wild in their
first seasons. Their philosophy then and now has centered on
finding players who have four characteristics: team comes before
individual, passion, honesty, and preparation. The difference
between winning and losing is inches. He concluded his part of the
talk by saying, "Lots of people are very excited about the future
of hockey and the Minnesota Wild Team in Minnesota |

Schedule |

| Remember:
As greeter you have several duties. You need to arrive about 10
minutes early. It is your job to greet people, help them find
their badges and sell them a ticket if they wish to participate.
The money collected must be divided by the Greeters equally--half
goes to the Current Club Treasurer for the social committee and
half goes to the Club President along with the bucket of tickets.
Be there by 11:45 and call somebody to substitute for you if you

| Sertoman of the Day |
Steve
Lackner of Lakeland Mold was today's honored Sertoman. Steve has a
goal in mind for outstanding achievement in Sertoma--he wants to
see how long he can hang onto his red badge. So far he has gone 6
months avoiding the scheduled orientations. His sponsor is Jean
Marchand, but he claims all responsibility for not being oriented.
He moved to the Brainerd area (Mille Lacs Lake) eleven years
ago to escape the big city life and has never regretted the
decision. His current job is human resource manager for Lakeland
Mold which has 145 employees and specializes in making the molds
that go to companies that make things like kayaks and containers.
His claim to fame is his bowling. In his heyday he toured with
a bowling team and has 3 perfect 300 games under his belt. His
most embarrassing moment involved a bowling trip, a large
unfamiliar luxury vehicle and a policeman. He no longer bowls but
instead enjoys all the outdoor activities that make our area
famous. Steve joined to meet people and has certainly achieved
that goal. |

Thank you's abounded today. A great group of people set up and
took down every piece of Pipe and Drape we had for the Quilter's
Show in record time according to new Pipe and Drape Chairman Kari
Barnes. Just less than 2 hours to go up and just an hour to take
down. |

George Moore was very enthusiastic about the brat sales which
brought in $500 this past weekend. Not only do we benefit
financially from this great little fundraiser, but it puts our
Sertoma Club in the public spotlight. Thanks George and all the
brat people. |
